    Purpose The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Kannada version of the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V). Method The Kannada version of CAPE-V comprises six phrases that are phonetically designed as per the CAPE-V requirements. Sixty-five (21 individuals with dysphonia and 44 asymptomatic) participants were enrolled for the instrument psychometric validation. The interrater and intrarater reliability as well as validity were assessed. Results High level of agreement was noted between the three raters across all the CAPE-V parameters, highest for pitch (intraclass correlation coefficient value = .98) and lowest for loudness (intraclass correlation coefficient value = .96). High intrarater reliability agreement (intraclass correlation coefficient value > .97) was also noted for all the parameters. Among the correlation for parameters that are comparable between CAPE-V and the Grade, Roughness, Breathiness, Asthenia, and Strain scale, the highest correlation was noted for overall severity. There was a significant difference noted between the study and control groups for all parameters except loudness. The discriminant function analysis and classification revealed that 98% were correctly identified. Conclusion The Kannada version of CAPE-V has been proven to be a psychometrically reliable and valid tool to use for auditory-perceptual evaluation of voice.

    The purpose of this study is to develop the Mandarin version of the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V) and evaluate its reliability compared with the Grade, Roughness, Breathiness, Asthenia, Strain (GRBAS).
    The Mandarin version of the CAPE-V tool was translated from the validated English version with phonemic adaptations, content adjustment, and scale modification. Sixty dysphonic, 20 normal, and 20 repeated voice samples were included in this study. Ten of these were used for preassessment training; the remaining 90 were evaluated using the Mandarin CAPE-V and GRBAS for comparison of their interrater and intrarater reliabilities.
    Intrarater reliability was measured by Pearson r for the CAPE-V and Spearman rho for the GRBAS. Average CAPE-V Pearson r ranged from 0.80 for strain to 0.91 for overall severity, compared with average GRBAS Spearman rho of 0.83 for strain to 0.89 for asthenia. Interrater reliability was measured by an intraclass coefficient (ICC). Average CAPE-V ICCs ranged from .57 for pitch to .81 for overall severity, compared with average GRBAS ICCs of .60 for asthenia to .83 for grade.
    The Mandarin CAPE-V addresses some limits of the English version. It also demonstrates good intrarater and interrater reliability, comparable to those of GRBAS.

    OBJECTIVE: The Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V) was developed.to promote a standardised approach to evaluating and documenting auditory perceptual judgments of vocal quality. This tool was originally developed in English language and its Spanish version is still inexistent. The aim of this study was to develop a Spanish adaptation of CAPE-V and to examine the reliability and empirical validity of this Spanish version.
    METHODS: To adapt the CAPE-V protocol to the Spanish language, we proposed 6 phrases phonetically designed according to the CAPE-V requirements. Prospective instrument validation was performed. The validity of the Spanish version of the CAPE-V was examined in 4 ways: intra-rater reliability, inter-rater reliability and CAPE-V versus GRABS judgments.
    RESULTS: Inter-rater reliability coefficients for the CAPE-V ranged from 0.93 for overall severity to 0.54 for intensity; intra-rater reliability ranged from 0.98 for overall severity to 0.85 for intensity. The comparison of judgments between GRABS and CAPE-V ranged from 0.86 for overall severity to 0.61 for breathiness.
    CONCLUSIONS: The present study supports the use of the Spanish version of CAPE-V because of its validity and reliability.

    The proposal of this guideline or basic protocol is an attempt to reach better agreement and uniformity concerning the methodology for functional assessment of pathological voices. The purpose is to allow relevant comparisons with the literature when presenting/publishing the results of voice treatment, e.g. a phonosurgical technique, or a new/improved instrument or procedure for investigating the pathological voice. Meta-analyses of results of voice treatments are generally limited--and even impossible--due to the major diversity in assessing functional outcomes. A minimal, multidimensional set of basic measurements is proposed, suitable for all \"common\" dysphonias: it includes 5 different approaches: perception (grade, roughness, breathiness), videostroboscopy (closure, regularity, mucosal wave and symmetry), acoustics (jitter, shimmer, Fo-range and softest intensity), aerodynamics (phonation quotient), and self rating by the patient. The protocol is elaborated on the base of an exhaustive review of the literature, the experience of the Committee members, and of plenary discussions within the European Laryngological Society. Instrumentation is kept to a minimum, but considered essential for professionals performing phonosurgery.

    Sixty subjects between the ages of 21 and 48 months were placed into groups based on mean length of utterance (MLU) and chronological age (CA) to test Stampe\'s hypothesis about the development of phonological processes. The subjects were given the Phonological Process Analysis (Weiner, 1979), and a proportion score for each of sixteen phonological processes was derived for each subject. The use of the various phonological processes across MLU groups and age groups was analyzed by multiple regression correlation, three-way ANOVA, and Tukey\'s HSD tests. MLU was found to be the best classification for the subjects for describing the phonological processes. The results and discussions present MLU-referenced guidelines regarding the emergence, duration, elimination, and universality of the sixteen phonological processes.

    A consensus transcription procedure is presented, and representative data are reported. The procedure includes explicit response definitions for mapping narrow phonetic transcription onto dichotomous, nonerror/error scores and 17 rules for obtaining consensus between two transcribers. The data include descriptive statistics for consensus rule use based on over 18,000 sounds transcribed during a normative study of speech sound acquisition in children aged 3-6 years. Validity and reliability issues in phonetic transcription are discussed.
