    BACKGROUND: Fractures with delayed healing can be a serious complication, especially for athletes depending on quick return to sports. To our knowledge, no cases of increased healing of delayed union fractures with autologous biomedical interventions have been reported.
    METHODS: A 33-year-old Swedish professional boxer with a fractured humerus with a delayed union and a partially torn supraspinatus tendon was treated with injections of liquid platelet-rich fibrin and heat-coagulated albumin gel. He recovered almost completely from both injuries in only 1 month and could return to professional boxing in 3 months.
    CONCLUSIONS: This case raises the hypothesis that liquid platelet-rich fibrin and heat-coagulated albumin gel may be an effective, minimally invasive intervention in fractures with a delayed union. Further research is required to test this theory.

    This case study highlights the challenges faced by a couple with a history of two failed in-vitro fertilization (IVF) attempts, including miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. After treating the female partner for pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) with ceftriaxone and doxycycline, the decision was made to proceed with intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and fresh embryo transfer. Despite the transfer of two good-quality (4AB and 3AA) day five embryos, the human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) test yielded a negative result. Upon re-examination, a thin endometrium measuring 6.5mm was identified, prompting the implementation of the protocol for improvement of endometrial receptivity (PRIMER) protocol, which involves a combination of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). Following PRP administration and G-CSF injection, significant improvement was observed in the endometrial thickness. Subsequently, frozen embryo transfer (FET) was performed on day six of progesterone, resulting in a positive pregnancy outcome with a β-hCG level of 234 mIU/ml. Continuous adherence to instructions and ongoing administration of G-CSF until the 12th week of gestation remains important. This case underscores the efficacy of the PRIMER protocol in overcoming obstacles such as recurrent implantation failure (RIF) and achieving positive outcomes in assisted reproductive technology (ART).

    Diabetes mellitus is a prevalent chronic condition that significantly impacts global health. Diabetic foot complications, such as foot ulcers, pose a substantial burden on individuals with diabetes and can lead to serious consequences, including amputation. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a promising therapeutic approach for enhancing the healing of diabetic foot ulcers.
    In our study, we treated 12 patients with chronic diabetic ulcers using PRP injections administered at three-week intervals. Our objective was to assess the reduction in wound size and the rate of complete healing at 6 months after the start of the treatment. Additionally, we conducted a comprehensive literature review to contextualize our findings.
    Out of the 12 patients, 8 achieved complete healing of their diabetic foot ulcers, while the remaining four showed significant improvement with more than 50% reduction in the initial lesion size. 3 patients developed mild irritation at the inoculation site. These outcomes, combined with the evidence from published studies, highlight the effectiveness of PRP in promoting the healing of diabetic foot ulcers.
    In conclusion, our study demonstrates the potential of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a successful therapeutic option for enhancing the healing process of chronic diabetic foot ulcers. The favorable outcomes observed, including a high rate of complete healing and significant wound size reduction, underscore the value of PRP treatment in managing this challenging complication. Further research and larger studies may provide additional insights into the mechanisms and long-term benefits of PRP in diabetic wound healing.

    A 46-year-old patient with extensive patchy alopecia areata (AA) treated successfully with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is presented. The therapy was used in three applications at monthly intervals. The treatment results were analyzed with clinical photography, quantitative assessment of scalp hair, digital trichoscopy, and evaluation of the patient\'s quality of life. Results of studies conducted with PRP therapy in alopecia areata are briefly presented. PRP injections in alopecia areata are a relatively effective, safe, low-pain, and minimally invasive treatment method.

    A variety of intra-articular injections are used for the management of osteoarthritis. A rare complication of intra-articular injections is acute pseudoseptic arthritis, which mimics true septic arthritis. To the authors knowledge, pseudosepsis has not been reported as a complication after platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. We present a case report of pseudoseptic arthritis resulting in acute postinjection pain and a joint effusion after an intra-articular PRP injection into the knee. Clinically, pseudosepsis can occur after PRP treatment with significantly elevated white blood cell counts in the synovial fluid, and should be a consideration in cases of post-PRP injection flares.

    Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare inflammatory papulosquamous skin disease that has six distinct types. Type 5 PRP is called atypical juvenile PRP. Here we report the case of a 17-year-old boy with insignificant past medical history presenting with a history of persistent slowly progressing very itchy skin lesions since the age of seven years. The lesions were photoaggravated. No similar cases in the family were observed and the parents were not consanguint. Skin examination revealed scaly erythematous patches, papules and plaques all over his body. There were also ichthyosiform-like scales covering the whole body. Hair, nails, and mucus membranes examinations were normal. A 4-mm punch skin biopsy was taken. The dermis revealed hyperkeratosis with checkerboard pattern of orthokeratosis and parakeratosis, the granular layer was preserved and acanthosis with thick and short rete ridges. The dermis showed mild perivascular lymphocytic infiltrates. On the basis of the above clinicopathological findings, the diagnosis of pityriasis rubra pilaris (atypical juvenile type) (type 5) was made. The patient was started on isotretinoin capsule 20 mg twice a day and placed under periodic follow-up.

    A ventilated thermoplastic mesh bandage was used for the post-operative management of large soft tissue defects in three dogs. Once the granulation tissue appeared, the wounds were treated with liquid or jellified autologous platelet concentrates, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet Lysate (PL), to improve the wound healing process. After cleaning the wound with sterile physiological solution, a dressing was performed with several layers of cotton. A window through the layers of cotton was opened above the wound. Then, the platelet concentrate was topically applied, and the bandage was completed by placing, over the access window, a ventilated thermoplastic mesh modeled according to the size and shape of the wound. After 24 h, it was replaced by a low adhesion bandage. The thermoplastic mesh avoids the direct contact between the wound and the external layers of the bandage, preventing the drainage of the topical agent and the removal of the growing healthy granulation tissue. The bandage proposed in this study is easily applied by the veterinarian and well-tolerated by the animal, ensuring high welfare standards in stressed patients presenting compromised clinical conditions.

    BACKGROUND: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has long been used for the restoration of hair in conjunction with microneedling or on its own. Fat grafting to the scalp has also been utilized in the past to improve the quality of hair and the possibility of successful hair transplant. The novel therapy reported in this case series combines the natural progression of these two techniques and utilizes synergistic effects to improve the quality of hair, either in preparation for micrografting or without hair transplant.
    OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the principles behind the novel approach to restoration of hair and the rationale for its use.
    METHODS: A review of the evidence for PRP and fat transfer for non-scarring alopecia serves as the foundation for the combination treatment reported herein. Through presentation of three cases in this series, we provide examples of the utility of this approach for non-scarring alopecia. This report includes a female who suffered non-scarring alopecia following COVID-19 hospitalization and intensive care stay where she lost a large percentage of her hair, in addition to two male patients suffering from androgenic alopecia.
    RESULTS: Platelet-rich plasma-hybridized adipose transplant hair was shown in these three cases to improve both the quality and density of hair. It improved the density of hair in all patients and was characterized first by a short period of transient hair loss followed by new hair growth which develops starting at 4 weeks and was readily apparent at 12-week follow-up. Results were maintained at 6-month and 1-year follow-up.
    CONCLUSIONS: PHAT hair offers a combination of beneficial effects-namely the unique healing properties and growth signaling provided by PRP, along with adipocyte angiogenic and growth signaling, which both work to improve scalp quality. The combination of these effects is better than previously characterized PRP injections alone in the hands of these individual practices. This may be due to synergistic interactions at a cellular level, but additional clinical studies are needed to better understand this novel treatment and the observed effects.
