    In this study, tissue scaffolds mimicking hierarchical morphology are constructed and proposed for bone augmentation. The scaffolds are fabricated using lyophilization, before coating them with collagen (Col). Subsequently, the Col-coated scaffolds undergo a second lyophilization, followed by silk fibroin (SF) coating, and a third lyophilization. Thereafter, the scaffolds are divided into six groups with varying ratios of Col to SF: Col/SF = 7:3, 5:5, 3:7, 10:0, and 0:10, with an SF scaffold serving as the control group. The scaffold morphology is examined using a scanning electron microscope, while molecular and structural formations are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer and differential scanning calorimeter, respectively. Physical and mechanical properties including swelling and compression are tested. Biological functions are assessed throughin vitroosteoblast cell culturing. Biomarkers indicative of bone formation-cell viability and proliferation, alkaline phosphatase activity, and calcium content-are analyzed. Results demonstrate that scaffolds coated with Col and SF exhibit sub-porous formations within the main pore. The molecular formation reveals interactions between the hydrophilic groups of Col and SF. The scaffold structure contains bound water and SF formation gets disrupted by Col. Physical and mechanical properties are influenced by the Col/SF ratio and morphology due to coating. The biological functions of scaffolds with Col and SF coating show enhanced potential for promoting bone tissue formation, particularly the Col/SF (7:3) ratio, which is most suitable for bone augmentation in small defect areas.

    Capillary hemangiomas, usually found in skin and mucosal tissues, are rarely encountered within the spinal cord, presenting a significant diagnostic challenge. We report a rare case of intradural extramedullary capillary hemangioma at the conus medullaris in a 66-year-old female patient. Our initial diagnosis leaned towards a cystic hemangioblastoma based on MRI findings due to the presence of cystic formation with an enhanced mural nodule. However, surgical exploration and subsequent pathological examination revealed the lesion as a capillary hemangioma. To the authors\' knowledge, this case may represent the first documented instance of a spinal capillary hemangioma that mimics a cystic hemangioblastoma.

    Although airway foreign body aspiration (FBA) is a common occurrence in any age group, unrecognized and retained foreign bodies in lungs may result in severe complications, such as lung abscess or bronchiectasis. In rare cases, FBA may present with similar clinical features as many other diseases (e.g. asthma, tumor, pulmonary eosinophilia). Here, we report a rare case of missed FBA in a nine-year-old boy, whose chest CT scan was suggestive of a cavitary lesion in the left lower lobe mimicking congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM). However, surprisingly, flexible bronchoscopy revealed a peanut lodged in the lateral basal segment of left lower lobe, which was subsequently retrieved by a forceps and avoided unnecessary surgical lobectomy. Therefore, FBA can mimic other disorders (e.g. CPAM), and a high index of suspicion and additional diagnostic techniques (e.g. flexible bronchoscopy) may be required to distinguish them. Additionally, FBA should be considered in the differential diagnosis of respiratory disorders in children even lack of aspiration history.

    A 61-year-old female presented with right atrial mass during physical examination. Contrast-enhanced left heart echocardiography revealed a mass with the size of 32*23 mm in the right atrium, attached to the atrial septum; there was a certain degree of activity and deformation. MRI showed a mass of about 35*22 mm in the right atrium adjacent to the atrial septum, which was diagnosed with right atrial myxoma. Intraoperative TEE showed that the mass was located in the atrial septum close to the inferior vena cava and spontaneous echo contrast with hyperechoic images within the mass. The lesion was resected under cardiopulmonary bypass. Pathological examination revealed that the filling defect was an atrial septal hematogenous cyst with calcification.

    Phospholipids play key roles in infant nutrition and cognitive development. It is hypothesized that infant formula (IF) has lower phospholipid species, content and milk fat globule (MFG) structural integrity than human milk (HM). Herein, we performed qualitative and quantitative analyses of phospholipids in six classes of IF and HM using ultra-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. The contents of phosphatidylethanolamine (15.81 ± 7.20 mg/L) and sphingomyelin (35.84 ± 15.56 mg/L) in IF were significantly lower than those in HM (30.74 ± 17.38 mg/L, 45.53 ± 16.04 mg/L, respectively). Among the six IF classes, cow\'s milk-based IF had the highest number of phospholipid species, and IF containing milk fat globular membrane had the highest phospholipid content. The size, zeta potential, and amount of MFGs in IF were significantly lower than those in HM. These results may prove useful for designing better IF that mimic HM.

    The traditional 2d culture has been proved inferior to reproduce the subtle interaction between cell-to-cell and cell-to-extracellular matrix (ECM) in tumor microenvironment (TME) and collagen in ECM contributes to various malignancies of tumors. Hence, the 3d model contained with collagen may overcome the shortcomings of 2d culture. In this study, the in vitro TME mimicking matrix was prepared by coupling porcine liver-derived collagen (COL) and the dialdehyde group of partially oxidized alginate (OA), namely OA-COL, and the 3d OA-COL droplets were polymerized by divalent calcium ions. In the 3d OA-COL droplets, cancer cells displayed vigorous proliferation, and the cells grew in clusters and formed a unique spindle like clone. Quantitative analysis proved that various gene transcription and protein expression were up-regulated for the cells in the 3d OA-COL droplets, including F-actin reassembling, focal adhesion, pseudopodia formation, and the proteins involved in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). The 3d OA-COL droplets induced the cells with strengthened polarity, invasiveness, higher IC50, and manifested stronger tumorigenicity in vivo. The fabricated 3d OA-COL droplets reproduced a variety of TME parameters, constructed an in vitro model similar to the TME in vivo, and it may facilitate many investigations in cell biology and tumor biology.

    Human milk lipids differ from the milk lipids of other mammals in composition and positional distribution of fatty acids. Analysis and detection technology of lipids is key to understanding milk lipids, and thus the concentrations, compositions and distribution characteristics of milk lipids are discussed. Differences between human milk lipids and their substitutes in form, composition and structure affect their digestion, absorption and function in infants. Characteristics and mimicking of human milk lipids have been intensively studied with the objective of narrowing the gap between human milk and infant formulae. Based on the existing achievements, further progress may be made by improving detection techniques, deepening knowledge of metabolic pathways and perfecting fat substitutes. This review detailed the characteristics of human milk lipids and related detection technologies with a view towards providing a clear direction for research on mimicking human milk lipids in formulae to further improve infant nutrition.

    BACKGROUND: Oesophageal submucosal tumours are usually benign. We report a rare case of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma presenting as a submucosal tumour.
    METHODS: A 58-year-old man undergoing screening oesophago-gastroduodenoscopy was found to have a smooth-surfaced 0.6-cm sized submucosal tumour in the oesophagus 30 cm from the incisor. Endoscopic ultrasonography showed the tumour to be located in the muscularis mucosa; the lesion was heterogeneously hypoechoic and had a clear boundary. With a provisional diagnosis of leiomyoma, the tumour was removed by endoscopic submucosal dissection. Pathological examination showed it to be a moderately differentiated infiltrating squamous cell carcinoma, with normal overlying squamous epithelium. Immunohistochemistry indicated that it was caused by malignant transformation in mucosal glandular duct epithelium. Positron emission tomography-computer tomography showed no tumour spread to any other site. The patient was treated by oesophageal resection.
    CONCLUSIONS: The clinician should be aware that oesophageal submucosal tumours with smooth overlying mucosa may not always be benign; malignancy must be ruled out.

    OBJECTIVE: There are few reports of hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) caused by maternal autoantibodies.
    METHODS: We describe the case of a pregnant patient aged 26 years with systemic lupus erythematosus without any transfusion history who developed autoantibody with mimicking anti-E specificity. Her newborn developed HDFN caused by the maternal autoantibody.
    RESULTS: The clinical symptoms of the newborn were not serious. After bilirubin light phototherapy and other symptomatic supportive treatment, the baby was discharged with a good prognosis.
    CONCLUSIONS: This is the first reported case of HDFN caused by maternal autoantibody with mimicking anti-E specificity. However, the real antigenic target of the autoantibody was not clear.
