    Purpose: To investigate the available evidence on the accuracy of conventional and digital workflows for complete arch implant supported frameworks. Materials and methods: This scoping review was conducted according to the 5-stage framework of Arksey and O\'Malley. A systematic literature search was performed adhering to the PRISMA guidelines to identify studies with a direct comparison of conventional and digital methods for the fabrication of complete arch implant supported frameworks. 58 in-vitro studies with the focus on edentulous arches with at least four implants published between 2000 and 2024 were included. The reported outcomes were examined to determine the value of a statistical analysis for adding up the individual errors to a cumulative error of the workflow. Results: Evidence on the accuracy assessment of digital and conventional workflows for complete arch implant supported frameworks is available. However, also studies with the same assessment methods and outcome units appear to be too heterogeneous to perform a statistical analysis of error accumulation. While there is no consensus in the impression and cast fabrication stage, digital techniques show a superior accuracy for the fabrication of complete arch implant supported frameworks compared to conventional casting. Conclusion: In-vitro studies assessing the accuracy of entire workflows and classifying their outcomes regarding the clinical relevance are lacking.

    Periacetabular osteotomy is the gold standard treatment for acetabular dysplasia. The great variability of acetabular dysplasia requires a personalized preoperative planning improved by 3D reconstruction and computer-assisted surgery. To plan the displacement of the acetabular fragment by a pelvic osteotomy, it is necessary to define a reference plane and a method to characterize 3D acetabular orientation. A scoping review was performed on PubMed to search for articles with a method to characterize the acetabulum of native hips in a 3D reference frame. Ninety-eight articles out of 3815 reports were included. Three reproducible reference planes were identified: the anterior pelvic plane, the Standardization and Terminology Committee plane used in gait analysis, and the sacral base plane. The different methods for 3D analysis of the acetabulum were divided in four groups: global orientation, triplanar measurements, segmentation, and surface coverage of the femoral head. Two methods were found appropriate for reorientation osteotomies: the global orientation by a vector method and the triplanar method. The global orientation method relies on the creation of a vector from the acetabular rim, from the acetabular surface or from successive planes. Normalization of the global acetabular vector would correct acetabular dysplasia by a single alignment maneuver on an ideal vector. The triplanar method, based on angle measurements at the center of the femoral head, would involve correction of anomalies by considering axial, frontal, and sagittal planes. Although not directly fit for reorientation, the two others would help to candidate patients and verify both planning and postoperative result.

    Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly prevalent in biomedical and industrial development, capturing the interest of dental professionals and patients. Its potential to improve the accuracy and speed of dental procedures is set to revolutionize dental care. The use of AI in computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) within the restorative dental and material science fields offers numerous benefits, providing a new dimension to these practices. This study aims to provide a concise overview of the implementation of AI-powered technologies in CAD/CAM restorative dental procedures and materials. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using keywords from 2000 to 2023 to obtain pertinent information. This method was implemented to guarantee a thorough investigation of the subject matter. Keywords included; \"Artificial Intelligence\", \"Machine Learning\", \"Neural Networks\", \"Virtual Reality\", \"Digital Dentistry\", \"CAD/CAM\", and \"Restorative Dentistry\". Artificial intelligence in digital restorative dentistry has proven to be highly beneficial in various dental CAD/CAM applications. It helps in automating and incorporating esthetic factors, occlusal schemes, and previous practitioners\' CAD choices in fabricating dental restorations. AI can also predict the debonding risk of CAD/CAM restorations and the compositional effects on the mechanical properties of its materials. Continuous enhancements are being made to overcome its limitations and open new possibilities for future developments in this field.

    Objectives: This study aimed to do a comprehensive systematic review on the comparison of digital and conventional workflows regarding prosthetic outcomes, accuracy of implant impressions, framework passivity and fit, and clinical fabrication of multi-unit implant-supported fixed restorations. Materials and Methods: The EMBASE, PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for relevant articles published up until April 2020. Results: No in-vivo article was found to compare full digital and conventional workflows regarding the accuracy of implant impressions, passivity and fit of frameworks, and prosthetic outcomes. There was no study to investigate full digital and conventional workflows for clinical fabrication of multi-unit implant-supported fixed restorations. Conclusion: This empty review highlights the need for further research to compare full digital and conventional workflows for implant-supported restorations.

    Introduction A little over ten years ago, zirconia crowns made their debut in the field of dentistry. Despite early problems with the chipping of veneering porcelain, clinical studies have demonstrated excellent performance. It is essential for a ceramic crown to have good aesthetic qualities, in addition to having good mechanical characteristics. The exceptional mechanical qualities of zirconia crowns and the simplicity with which they may be machined, employing computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing schemes, are primarily responsible for the widespread use of these materials in clinical settings. New ceramic-based materials, including monolithic zirconia, zirconia-containing lithium disilicate ceramics, and graded glass/zirconia/glass, have recently been launched in the field of dentistry. These newly discovered zirconia crown materials stem from varied technological approaches, each likely to lead to additional clinical advancements. At this point, it seems imperative to offer a concentrated report on the newer developments, along with essential clinical recommendations for best clinical outcomes with zirconia crowns.Types of studies This review article is a consolidation of several case studies, cohort studies and systematic reviews, as well as experimental and observational randomised control trials and other peer-reviewed articles.Results On reviewing, a concise list of clinical recommendations is generated, demonstrating that monolithic zirconia offers some clinical advantages over veneered zirconia crowns.Conclusion This review article discloses various clinical revelations and in-office recommendations for favourable usage of zirconia ceramic crowns that can lead to better patient outcomes and long-term clinical success rates.

    OBJECTIVE: The aim of this review was to analyze mechanical and biological properties of resin materials used with subtractive or additive techniques for oral appliances fabrication and compare them to those conventionally manufactured.
    METHODS: The protocol was registered online at Open Science Framework (OSF) registries ( https://osf.io/h5es3 ) and the study was based on the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis protocols (PRISMA-P). An electronic search was conducted on MEDLINE (via PubMed), Scopus, and Web of Science from 1 February 2022 to 1 May 2022.
    METHODS: in vitro and in vivo studies published in the last 10 years, with CAD-CAM or 3D printed resins for occlusal splints. Data considered homogenous were subjected to meta-analysis (95% confidence interval [CI]; α = 0.05) with Stata17 statistical software. Since all variables were continuous, the Hedge g measure was calculated. A fixed-effects model was used for I2 = 0%, while statistical analysis was conducted using a random-effects model with I2 > 0%.
    RESULTS: 13 studies were included after full-text reading. The mechanical properties most studied were wear, flexural strength, surface hardness and surface roughness, while only 1 study investigated biological properties, performing the XTT viability assay. For the meta-analysis, only surface roughness, volume loss, and flexural strength were selected. Considering surface roughness, the subtractive specimen had a lower average value compared to traditional ones (Hedge\'s g with 95% CI = -1.25[ -1.84, - 0.66]). No significant difference was detected in terms of volume loss (P > 0.05) between the groups (Hedge\'s g with 95% CI = -0.01 [-2.71, - 2.68]). While flexural strength was higher in the control group (Hedge\'s g with 95% CI = 2.32 [0.10-4.53]).
    CONCLUSIONS: 3D printed materials showed properties comparable to conventional resins, while milled splint materials have not shown better mechanical performance compared with conventional heat-cured acrylic resin. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) have great potential and needs to be further investigated. Biological tests on oral cell populations are needed to confirm the long-term biocompatibility of these materials.
    CONCLUSIONS: The use of \"mixed splints\" combining different materials needs to be improved and evaluated in future research to take full advantage of different characteristics and properties.

    To review the developments in intraoral scanner (IOS) technologies applied in implant prosthodontics, emphasizing their influence on the accuracy of digital impressions, occlusal registrations, and the fit of implant-supported restorations.
    A collection of published articles related to implant prosthodontics, the accuracy of digital impressions, occlusal registration, and the fit of implant-supported fixed restorations.
    Three search engines were selected: Medline/PubMed, EBSCO, and Cochrane. A manual search was also conducted.
    A literature search screened relevant databases and journals for studies on IOS applications in digital implant prosthodontic workflows from Dec 2018 to Dec 2023. Inclusion criteria encompassed randomized control trials, clinical trials, case series, and in vitro research focused on the use of IOS in digital implant prosthodontics.
    The increased utilization of digital dental technologies has led to significant integration of digital implant prosthodontic workflows into clinicians\' clinical practice. Several variables affect the accuracy of digital impressions generated by IOS. Generally, the prevailing opinion in academic papers is that digital workflows are suitable for addressing short-span implant-supported restorations. However, when it comes to long-span defects, the accuracy of digital workflows is still a matter of debate. Digital bite registration is an integral part of the workflow. It depends mainly on the defect size and location, scan strategy, anatomical tooth variations, overbite and other factors. The overall fit of digitally prefabricated implant restorations comprises of proximal, occlusal contacts and how accurately the restoration connects with implants. Research methodologies need standardization for further validation.
    In clinical practice, it is essential to have a thorough and up-to-date comprehension of various factors that can affect the accuracy of digital impressions and the fit of the final prosthesis in implant prosthodontics.

    OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the current evidence of digital workflow feasibility based on the data acquisition methods and the software tools used to fabricate intraoral prostheses for patients with partial or total maxillary and mandibular defects.
    METHODS: An electronic search was performed in PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science using a combination of relevant keywords: digital workflow, digital designing, computer-assisted design-computer aided manufacturing, 3D printing, maxillectomy, and mandibulectomy. The Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tool was used to assess the quality of evidence in the studies reviewed.
    RESULTS: From a total of 542 references, 33 articles were selected, including 25 on maxillary prostheses and 8 on mandibular prostheses. The use of digital workflows was limited to one or two steps of the fabrication of the prostheses, and only four studies described a complete digital workflow. The most preferred method for data acquisition was intraoral scanning with or without a cone beam computed tomography combination.
    CONCLUSIONS: Currently, the fabrication process of maxillofacial prostheses requires combining digital and conventional methods. Simplifying the data acquisition methods and providing user-friendly and affordable software may encourage clinicians to use the digital workflow more frequently for patients requiring maxillofacial prostheses.

    Severe tooth wear is related to substantial loss of tooth structure, with dentin exposure and significant loss (≥1/3) of the clinical crown. The objective of this systematic review was to summarize and analyze the scientific evidence regarding the mechanical performance of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) composite resin and CAD/CAM lithium disilicate ceramic occlusal veneers, in terms of fatigue and fracture resistance, on severely worn posterior teeth. Currently, occlusal veneers are an alternative for treating worn posterior teeth. Although scientific evidence demonstrates the good performance of lithium disilicate occlusal veneers, there are less brittle materials with a modulus of elasticity more similar to dentin than ceramics, such as resin CAD/CAM blocks. Therefore, it is important to identify which type of material is best for restoring teeth with occlusal wear defects and which material can provide better clinical performance. This review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A comprehensive search of the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane, OpenGrey, Redalyc, DSpace, and Grey Literature Report databases was conducted and supplemented by a manual search, with no time or language limitations, until January 2022. We aimed to identify studies evaluating the fatigue and fracture resistance of CAD/CAM composite resin and ceramic occlusal veneers. The quality of the full-text articles was evaluated according to the modified Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) criteria for in vitro studies, and 400 articles were initially identified. After removing duplicates and applying the selection criteria, 6 studies were included in the review. The results demonstrated that the mechanical performance of CAD/CAM composite resin occlusal veneers is comparable to that of CAD/CAM lithium disilicate occlusal veneers in terms of fatigue and fracture resistance.
