    Application of aqueous zinc metal batteries (AZMBs) in large-scale new energy systems (NESs) is challenging owing to the growth of dendrites and frequent side reactions. Here, this study proposes the use of Panthenol (PB) as an electrolyte additive in AZMBs to achieve highly reversible zinc plating/stripping processes and suppressed side reactions. The PB structure is rich in polar groups, which led to the formation of a strong hydrogen bonding network of PB-H2O, while the PB molecule also builds a multi-coordination solvated structure, which inhibits water activity and reduces side reactions. Simultaneously, PB and OTF- decomposition, in situ formation of SEI layer with stable organic-inorganic hybrid ZnF2-ZnS interphase on Zn anode electrode, can inhibit water penetration into Zn and homogenize the Zn2+ plating. The effect of the thickness of the SEI layer on the deposition of Zn ions in the battery is also investigated. Hence, this comprehensive regulation strategy contributes to a long cycle life of 2300 h for Zn//Zn cells assembled with electrolytes containing PB additives. And the assembled Zn//NH4V4O10 pouch cells with homemade modules exhibit stable cycling performance and high capacity retention. Therefore, the proposed electrolyte modification strategy provides new ideas for AZMBs and other metal batteries.

    BACKGROUND: The protection for different skin types with impaired skin barrier in the market is insufficient.
    OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a panthenol-enriched mask (La Roche-Posay Mask Pro) in addressing various skin barrier impairment subgroups, including dry sensitive, oily sensitive, and oily acne skin.
    METHODS: A total of 177 participants were enrolled in the study and divided into three subgroups based on their skin type. Participants used the mask following the specified protocol, with measurements taken for skin hydration, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), sebum content, and skin redness-factors that are directly influenced by skin barrier function. Assessments were conducted at baseline and after 1 day (tested 15 min post-application), 7 days, and 14 days of application using Sebumeter, Tewameter, Corneometer, Mexameter, and VISIA.
    RESULTS: Results showed significant improvements in skin parameters across all subgroups. In the dry sensitive skin subgroup, the mask increased skin hydration, sebum content, and reduced redness. For the oily sensitive skin subgroup, the mask regulated sebum production and improved skin hydration. In the oily acne skin subgroup, the mask reduced sebum content, redness, TEWL, and post-inflammatory erythema and hyperpigmentation. Tolerance was excellent for all skin types, with no adverse reactions observed.
    CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the efficacy and safety of the panthenol-enriched LRP Mask Pro for individuals with distinct skin barrier impairment subgroups. The mask\'s versatile formulation and proven efficacy make it a valuable skincare product for addressing various skin concerns and achieving healthier, more balanced skin.

    BACKGROUND: Sensitive skin is a common condition affecting a significant proportion of the population, and there is a growing demand for effective and safe management.
    OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a cream containing panthenol, prebiotics, and probiotic lysate as an optimal care for facial sensitive skin.
    METHODS: A total of 110 participants (64 in group A and 46 in group B) with facial sensitive skin applied the cream twice daily for 28 days. Group A evaluated their sensitive skin, product efficacy, and product use experience at D0 (15 min), D1, D14, and D28. In group B, skin barrier function-related indicators were measured at baseline and on D1, D7, D14, and D28. Dermatologists evaluated tolerance for all participants.
    RESULTS: After 28 days of use, in group A, 100% of participants reported mildness and comfort with product use. Participants demonstrated significant improvements in skin barrier function-related indicators, including increased stratum corneum moisture content, reduced erythema index, elevated sebum content, decreased trans-epidermal water loss, and diminished skin redness parameter a* value (all p < 0.05). Dermatologist evaluations revealed excellent tolerance among all participants.
    CONCLUSIONS: The panthenol-enriched cream with prebiotics and probiotic lysate exhibited substantial clinical efficacy in ameliorating facial sensitive skin conditions, coupled with a high safety profile.

    BACKGROUND: Cheilitis is a chronic inflammatory condition of the lips, and frequent or prolonged use of topical corticosteroids may lead to various adverse events. Therefore, alternative therapies with fewer side effects are beneficial for the treatment of this condition.
    OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of a lip care formulation containing both panthenol and bisabolol as a monotherapy for mild-to-moderate cheilitis.
    METHODS: This single-centre prospective pilot open-label study included 20 patients with mild-to-moderate cheilitis who were treated with the tested lip care for 8 weeks and evaluated by physician and patient assessments before the final efficacy was determined using the Visioscan score.
    RESULTS: Of the 20 patients, 13 (65.0%) presented with moderate cheilitis with dry and chapped lips. All parameters, including physician and patient clinical scores and bioengineering measurements, showed significant improvements as early as week 2 and sustained until week 8 following the application of the tested lip care. The frequency of cheilitis flareups also decreased significantly. The tested product was well tolerated without any adverse effects.
    CONCLUSIONS: Lip care with panthenol and bisabolol was safe and effective. It can be used as monotherapy for the treatment of mild-to-moderate cheilitis.

    The Expert Panel for Cosmetic Ingredient Safety (Panel) assessed the safety of Panthenol, Pantothenic Acid, and 5 derivatives as used in cosmetics. These ingredients named in this report are reported to function in cosmetics as hair conditioning agents, and Panthenol also is reported to function as a skin-conditioning agent-humectant and a solvent. The Panel reviewed relevant data for these ingredients, and concluded that these 7 ingredients are safe in cosmetics in the present practices of use concentration described in this safety assessment.

    The first CE methodology enabling the enantiomeric separation of panthenol was developed in this work. Electrokinetic chromatography with cyclodextrins (CD-EKC) was the CE mode employed for this purpose. The effect of different experimental variables such as the nature and concentration of the cyclodextrin, the temperature and the separation voltage was investigated. The best enantiomeric separation was obtained with 25 mM (2-carboxyethyl)-β-CD (CE-β-CD) in 100 mM borate buffer (pH 9.0), with a separation voltage of 30 kV and a temperature of 30 °C. Under these conditions, an enantiomeric resolution of 2.0 in an analysis time of 4.2 min was obtained, being the biologically active enantiomer d-panthenol (dexpanthenol) the second-migrating enantiomer. The analytical characteristics of the method were evaluated in terms of precision, accuracy, selectivity, linearity, LOD, and LOQ, showing a good performance for the quantitation of dexpanthenol in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations. The enantiomeric impurity (L-panthenol) could be detected at a 0.1% level with respect to the majority enantiomer, allowing to accomplish the requirements of the ICH guidelines. The method was also successfully applied to study the stability of panthenol under abiotic and biotic conditions and its toxicity on non-target organisms (the aquatic plant Spirodela polyrhiza).

    Calcium pantothenate (CAS no. 137-08-6) is the calcium salt of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). It is used in cosmetics due to its anti-static and hair conditioning properties. A 53-year-old female nurse\'s aide presented with intermittent facial eruptions (Figure S1). Patch tests were positive to calcium pantothenate, an ingredient of two of her products (a cleansing milk and a facial tonic). To our knowledge, no previous cases of sensitization from calcium pantothenate have been reported except for one case of systemic dermatitis from a nutritional supplement in a dexpanthenol-sensitized patient.
