    BACKGROUND: Presenting health information at a sixth-grade reading level is advised to accommodate the general public\'s abilities. Breast cancer (BC) is the second-most common malignancy in women, but the readability of online BC information in English and Spanish, the two most commonly spoken languages in the United States, is uncertain.
    METHODS: Three search engines were queried using: \"how to do a breast examination,\" \"when do I need a mammogram,\" and \"what are the treatment options for breast cancer\" in English and Spanish. Sixty websites in each language were studied and classified by source type and origin. Three readability frameworks in each language were applied: Flesch Kincaid Reading Ease, Flesch Kincaid Grade Level, and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG) for English, and Fernández-Huerta, Spaulding, and Spanish adaptation of SMOG for Spanish. Median readability scores were calculated, and corresponding grade level determined. The percentage of websites requiring reading abilities >sixth grade level was calculated.
    RESULTS: English-language websites were predominantly hospital-affiliated (43.3%), while Spanish websites predominantly originated from foundation/advocacy sources (43.3%). Reading difficulty varied across languages: English websites ranged from 5th-12th grade (Flesch Kincaid Grade Level/Flesch Kincaid Reading Ease: 78.3%/98.3% above sixth grade), while Spanish websites spanned 4th-10th grade (Spaulding/Fernández-Huerta: 95%/100% above sixth grade). SMOG/Spanish adaptation of SMOG scores showed lower reading difficulty for Spanish, with few websites exceeding sixth grade (1.7% and 0% for English and Spanish, respectively).
    CONCLUSIONS: Online BC resources have reading difficulty levels that exceed the recommended sixth grade, although these results vary depending on readability framework. Efforts should be made to establish readability standards that can be translated into Spanish to enhance accessibility for this patient population.

    BACKGROUND: Parathyroidectomy is recommended for severe secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) due to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), but surgery is underutilized. High quality and accessible online health information, recommended to be at a 6th-grade reading level, is vital to improve patient health literacy. This study evaluated available online resources for SHPT from ESKD based on information quality and readability.
    METHODS: Three search engines were queried using the terms \"parathyroidectomy for secondary hyperparathyroidism,\" \"parathyroidectomy kidney/renal failure,\" \"parathyroidectomy dialysis patients,\" \"should I have surgery for hyperparathyroidism due to kidney failure?,\" and \"do I need surgery for hyperparathyroidism due to kidney failure if I do not have symptoms?\" Websites were categorized by source and origin. Two independent reviewers determined information quality using JAMA (0-4) and DISCERN (1-5) frameworks, and scores were averaged. Cohen\'s kappa evaluated inter-rater reliability. Readability was determined using the Flesch Kincaid Reading Ease, Flesch Kincaid Grade Level, and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook tools. Median readability scores were calculated, and corresponding grade level determined. Websites with reading difficulties >6th grade level were calculated.
    RESULTS: Thirty one (86.1%) websites originated from the U.S., with most from hospital-associated (63.9%) and foundation/advocacy sources (30.6%). The mean JAMA and DISCERN scores for all websites were 1.3 ± 1.4 and 2.6 ± 0.7, respectively. Readability scores ranged from grade level 5-college level, and most websites scored above the recommended 6th grade level.
    CONCLUSIONS: Patient-oriented websites tailoring SHPT from ESKD are at a reading level higher than recommended, and the quality of information is low. Efforts must be made to improve the accessibility and quality of information for all patients.

    UNASSIGNED: This study investigated the efficacy of chatbots in cataract patient education relative to traditional resources like the AAO website, focusing on information accuracy,understandability, actionability, and readability. A descriptive comparative design was used to analyse quantitative data from frequently asked questions about cataracts answered by ChatGPT, Bard, Bing AI, and the AAO website. SOLO taxonomy, PEMAT, and the Flesch-Kincaid ease score were used to collect and analyse the data.
    UNASSIGNED: Chatbots scored higher than AAO website on cataract-related questions in terms of accuracy (mean SOLO score ChatGPT: 3.1 ± 0.31, Bard: 2.9 ± 0.72, Bing AI: 2.65 ± 0.49, AAO website: 2.4 ± 0.6, (p < 0.001)).     UNASSIGNED: Chatbots have the potential to provide more detailed and accurate data than the AAO website. On the other hand, the AAO website has the advantage of providing information that is more understandable and practical. When patient preferences are not taken into account, generalised or biased information can decrease reliability.

    Access to reproductive health information is an integral part of the sustainable development goal3 of good health and well-being. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a gender-based approach to public health that should holistically address the physical, mental and emotional well-being of women. However, women in urban areas seem to be benefiting more from various laudable reproductive health programmes than those in rural areas. This scenario negates the concept of sexual and reproductive health and rights, which have fundamental bearing for sound economic development and poverty alleviation. It is against this background that this paper examined the provision of reproductive health information to rural women in Nigeria. It identified the reproductive health information needs of rural women, including information on fertility, management of unplanned pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, prenatal and postnatal care. It further discussed the problems hindering rural women from accessing reproductive health information. To alleviate these problems, the paper discussed various roles public libraries can play in helping rural women gain access to reproductive health information. It recommended adequate funding, community engagements, and collaboration with relevant agencies for public libraries to take their place in the dissemination of reproductive health information to rural women.

    Text descriptions in museums provide detailed and rich information about artifacts that broadens museum visitors\' knowledge and enriches their experience. However, since deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) individuals have low literacy compared to hearing people and communicate through sign language, museum descriptions are considerably limited in delivering a stimulating and informative environment for understanding and enjoying exhibits. To improve DHH individuals\' museum experience, we investigated the potential of three interactive description prototypes: active-linked, graph-based, and chatbot-based. A comparative study with 20 DHH participants confirmed that our interaction-based prototypes improve information accessibility and provide an enhanced experience compared to conventional museum descriptions. Most participants preferred the graph-based prototype, while post-interviews suggested that each prototype has potential benefits and limitations according to DHH individuals\' particular literacy skills and preferences. Text descriptions can be enlivened for DHH visitors by adding a simple interaction functionality, e.g., clicking, which can lead to a better museum experience.

    There is an ongoing debate among researchers and policy-makers on how to make transparency a powerful tool of healthcare systems. This study addresses how the availability and accessibility of information about medical services to the general population affects healthcare outcomes in Russia. A systematic review was conducted and reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviewing and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Transparency indicators of health facilities used in the world\'s most efficient healthcare systems are also reviewed. Although the increase of transparency in the Russian healthcare system is considered as a tool for improving its efficiency, very little has been done to improve the actual level of transparency. The existing institutional specifics of the Russian healthcare system impose serious restrictions on acceptable levels of transparency. In the reviewed empirical Russian studies, transparency is often viewed simplistically as either information available on the websites of medical organizations or issues related to the amount of accessible indicators of compulsory medical statistical reporting. The novelty of this study consists in (a) reviewing the most recent studies on the topic and (b) including studies in Russian in the analysis. We elaborate on general and specific policy implications for improving transparency-driven outcomes in the Russian healthcare system.

    People tend to misestimate their future emotions. This phenomenon is thought to be associated with information accessibility. However, few studies have demonstrated the impact of context-specific information accessibility on affective forecasting. This research investigated the effects of information accessibility on affective forecasting in career context (i.e., occupational engagement was seen as information accessibility), during which surprise or not surprise context was played simultaneously. We found that affective forecasting appeared stably across emotional response types. Specifically, there was an underestimation in interest appraisals and an overestimation in satisfaction. These biases were influenced by occupational engagement, which only worked in career interest appraisals. High occupational engagement made people estimate their future emotions more accurately and overcome their forecasting bias. Surprisingness was then manipulated further to explain whether it could impact the effect of occupational engagement on affective forecasting. The emotional responses in both prediction and experience were affected by surprisingness, thus causing no affective forecasting biases. These results suggest the role of occupational engagement in affective forecasting and provide evidence supporting the information accessibility model about the mechanism in affective forecasting.

    Over the past few months, transit agencies across Canada have been rushed to implement a range of strategies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with no standardized guidelines to direct their efforts. This study explores the initial response of transit agencies serving the 25 most populous Canadian cities by understanding the distinct types of response measures implemented between March 1st and June 1st, 2020. It also explores to what extent information related to these measures was accessible and usable, and how transit agencies used social media to communicate their efforts to the public. To achieve these goals, a detailed review of Canadian transit agencies websites and social media accounts was performed. The findings suggest that larger transit agencies across Canada implemented the most measures to respond to COVID-19, but not necessarily provided the most accessible information regarding the measures. Overall, while all transit agencies reduced the offered service\'s frequency and capacity and enhanced vehicle cleaning, the implementation of other physical and communication measures varied considerably between agencies. Information related to the number of COVID-19 cases within the workforce was least accessible across agencies. Transit agencies\' Twitter platforms were used more by larger agencies. While most of transit agencies tend to employ tweets that include some type of graphics, very few agencies employed videos and animations to communicate important information to the public. This paper provides transit planners and policymakers with comprehensive information regarding the initial response of Canadian transit agencies to maintain operations in such critical times.

    To manage the onslaught of continuously unfolding information in our complex environments, we adults are known to carve up our continuous experience into meaningful events, a process referred to as event segmentation. This segmentation directly shapes how our everyday experiences are construed: content experienced within an event is held mentally in an accessible state, which is then dropped after an event boundary. The greater accessibility of event-specific information has been shown to influence-at its most basic level-how information is processed and remembered. However, it is as yet unknown if accessibility is similarly influenced by event boundaries in children, who are still developing the working memory capacity and semantic knowledge thought to support event segmentation. Here, we tested seven- to nine-year-old children\'s and adults\' recognition of objects experienced either within or across event boundaries of two cartoons. We found that children and adults were both more accurate and faster to correctly recognize objects that last occurred within events versus across event boundaries. We, however, additionally observed an interaction such that children\'s access to recent experience was less influenced by event boundaries than adults\'. Thus, while the spontaneous segmentation of complex events emerges by middle childhood, event structure shapes the active contents of children\'s minds less reliably than adults\'.

    Many government websites and mobile content are inaccessible for people with vision, hearing, cognitive, and motor impairments. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted these disparities when health authority website information, critical in providing resources for curbing the spread of the virus, remained inaccessible for numerous disabled populations. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines provide comparatively universally accepted guidelines for website accessibility. We utilized these parameters to examine the number of countries with or without accessible health authority websites. The resulting data indicate a dearth of countries with websites accessible for persons with disabilities. Methods of information dissemination must take into consideration individuals with disabilities, particularly in times of global health crises.
