    Petroleum microorganisms play a crucial role in the application of microbial-enhanced oil recovery, and the community structures of petroleum microorganisms have been widely studied. Due to variations in reservoir geological conditions, reservoir microbial communities exhibit unique characteristics. However, previous studies have primarily focused on microbial community changes within a single well, a single block, and before and after water flooding, and thus, cross-horizon and cross-regional comparative studies of in situ microbial communities are lacking. In this study, the 16S rRNA full-length sequencing method was adopted to study bacterial communities in crude oil samples taken from two wells at the same depths (depths of 2425 m and 2412 m) but approximately 20 km apart in the Hujianshan oilfield, located in the Ordos Basin. At the same time, the results were combined with another layer of research data from another article (from a depth of 2140 m). The aim was to compare the differences in the microbial community structures between the oil wells on a horizontal scale and a vertical scale. The results revealed that there were minimal differences in the microbial community structures that were influenced by the horizontal distances within a small range (<20 km), while differences were observed at a larger spatial scale. However, the dominant bacteria (Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes) in the different oilfields were similar. Vertical depth variations (>300 m) had significant impacts on the communities, and this was mainly controlled by temperature. The greater the depth, the higher formation temperature, leading to an increase in thermophilic and anaerobic bacteria within a community.

    OBJECTIVE: This prospective study introduced a digitally designed sectioning guide and evaluated its feasibility for the extraction of horizontally impacted lower third molars.
    METHODS: This study included 38 horizontally impacted lower third molars, randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The teeth were extracted using a 3D-printed titanium surgical guide in the experimental group; free-hand extractions were performed in the control group. The surgical duration, tooth sectioning duration, cortical bone perforation, and postoperative complications, including pain, swelling, trismus, dry socket, infection, and hemorrhage, were evaluated.
    RESULTS: Although not statistically significant, guided surgery tended to reduce the number of tooth sectioning steps compared to free-hand extractions. There were no cases of cortical bone perforation in the experimental group. Although the surgical duration was greater in the experimental group (p < 0.05), there were no differences in postoperative pain, swelling, and trismus. There were no cases of postoperative infection and hemorrhage in either group.
    CONCLUSIONS: 3D-printed titanium surgical guides had superior accuracy and safety compared to free-hand surgery. Further studies with larger sample sizes are required to verify these findings.
    CONCLUSIONS: The template improved the safety of tooth sectioning during impacted lower third molar surgery and resulted in a more predictable extraction. The narrow sectioning groove could fit comfortably with hypertrophic soft tissues in the posterior mandible.

    UNASSIGNED: This study aims to investigate the feasibility of the horizontal rotary-cut technique in the removal of superficial benign breast tumors with a ≤1.0 cm distance between the upper margin of the tumor and the skin.
    UNASSIGNED: A total of 69 patients with superficial benign breast tumors received horizontal rotary-cut surgery between July 2018 and June 2019 (horizontal group). The rotary cutter groove was in the true lateral position of the tumor and the ultrasonic probe was vertical to the rotary cutter groove. The patients were compared with 33 patients who underwent the traditional vertical rotary-cut surgery between July 2017 and June 2018 (traditional group) regarding the aspects of operation time, intraoperative bleeding volume, postoperative skin ecchymosis, skin damage, and tumor residue. The rotary cutter groove was directly below the tumor and the ultrasonic probe was parallel to the rotary cutter groove in the traditional vertical rotary-cut surgery.
    UNASSIGNED: The operation time in the horizontal group was significantly shorter than in the traditional group (7.7 ± 1.1 minutes vs 9.5 ± 1.3 minutes, with t = -7.458 and p = 0.000) and there was significantly less skin damage in the horizontal group than in the traditional group (0 cases vs 3 cases, with p = 0.032). The differences in intraoperative bleeding and postoperative skin ecchymosis between the two groups were not statistically significant (6.0 ± 1.3 mL vs 6.5 ± 1.5 mL, with t = -1.853 and p = 0.067; 4 cases vs 2 cases, with χ 2 = 0.003 and p = 0.958). Ninety-seven patients attended follow-ups for 6-30 (16.5 ± 4.5) months. No residues or recurrences were observed under ultrasound reviews in either group.
    UNASSIGNED: In superficial benign breast tumor removal, the horizontal rotary-cut breast technique can help avoid skin injury, shorten the operation time, and reduce tumor residue more effectively compared with the traditional vertical rotary-cut technique. It has certain popularization and application values.

    OBJECTIVE: Horizontal nystagmus can be observed in the acute stage of vestibular neuritis, Although the direction of the nystagmus is gravity independent, its intensity can be influenced by gravity. In this study, we compared the slow phase velocity (SPV) of horizontal nystagmus in different head positions in patients with vestibular neuritis to analyze the static effects of gravity on horizontal nystagmus.
    METHODS: The study enrolled 22 vestibular neuritis patients with spontaneous horizontal nystagmus (9 men, 13 women; median age 40 years). The deficits were right-sided in 9 patients and left-sided in 13. The nystagmus was recorded in the sitting, supine, right and left ear down positions. The intensity of spontaneous nystagmus in the sitting versus while supine position, and SPV in affected ear down (AED), healthy ear down (HED), and supine positions were compared. The position-induced nystagmus was calculated to quantify the effect of head positions on nystagmus.
    RESULTS: The nystagmus intensity in the supine position had no statistic difference than when sitting, with a median value of 6.3°/s and 5.6°/s, respectively(P = 0.355). SPV in AED had a median value of 7.8°/s, which was greater than when supine (P = 0.008) and HED (4.8°/s) (P < 0.001). Position-induced nystagmus in left and right ear-down positions were 1.4°/s and -1.4°/s respectively, which were significantly correlated (Spearman\'s ρ = -0.848, P < 0.001).
    CONCLUSIONS: The nystagmus intensity in vestibular neuritis is gravity dependent; it\'s greater in AED than in supine and HED, and the effect of head position on nystagmus was nearly symmetrical in left and right ear-down positions.

    Spatial-numerical associations (small numbers-left/lower space and large numbers-right/upper space) are regularly found in elementary number processing. Recently, the interest in this phenomenon has been extended from elementary number processing to mental arithmetic. Many studies have demonstrated horizontal spatial-arithmetic associations, i.e., solving addition or subtraction problems cause spatial shifts of attention rightward or leftward, respectively. However, the role of this effect in the vertical dimension has not been addressed. This is problematic because it leaves the analogy between elementary number processing and arithmetic incomplete. In order to make a strong case for a similarity between elementary number processing and mental arithmetic, a spatial-arithmetic association should be observed in the vertical dimension too. Here, we adopted the target detection paradigm from Liu et al. (2017) to replicate the horizontal spatial-arithmetic association, and meanwhile investigate whether this effect also exists in the vertical direction. Our results confirmed that addition could induce covert movement to right side and subtraction to left side. However, such a spatial-arithmetic association was not found in the vertical dimension. The implication of these findings is discussed.
