    Endodontic treatment is often the first-line procedure to manage the immediate or long-term aftermath of dental trauma, particularly in cases of luxation or avulsion. Failure to manage trauma in the short or medium term leads to significant functional or aesthetic consequences, especially in the adolescence period. Under this specific conditions, endodontic treatment could provide a temporary solution by keeping teeth with poor prognosis on the arch while waiting for better anatomical conditions for implantology. This clinical case aimed to describe the management of a maxilla-facial dental trauma and the following consequences in a 10-year-old male patient. Clinical and radiological examination showed complete extrusive luxation of 11 and 21 and intrusive luxation of 12 and 22. Endodontic treatment of 11 and 21 was performed six months after the trauma. Two years later, the patient was referred to the endodontic department because pink spot lesions appeared on 12 and 22 due to cervical invasive resorptions (class III for 12 and class II for 22). Endodontic treatment of 12 and filling with resin composite of 22 were performed. During the following two years, complication management finally led to placement of four OBI® (Euroteknika, Sallanches, France)-type mini-implants after avulsion of all four maxillary incisors. Palliative endodontic treatment helped maintain the prosthetic space and the volume of supporting tissue needed for future implant placement. The interest of using delaying procedures (palliative endodontic treatments and mini-implants) was to allow the patient to complete growth. Managing early treatment failure of trauma in adolescents has to be pluridisciplinary and should take into account the evaluation of the treatment\'s difficulty, the prognosis of the endodontic treatment, the available bone volume and the pubertal growth stage.

    Orthodontic alignment of a horizontally impacted canine placed high and deep in the maxilla represents a challenging clinical scenario. This article describes a case report of a 16-year-old postpubertal male patient who was concerned about an unesthetic smile. The clinical and radiographic investigations revealed that the patient had retained deciduous canines and bilaterally impacted maxillary canines. The right impacted canine had a good prognosis. The left canine was horizontally impacted in the labial side with a Kau-Pan-Gallerano index score of 19, which indicates a \"difficult\" degree of treatment. The initial treatment plan was application of distal traction to the impacted left canine from reinforced anchorage unit to change its inclination from horizontal to vertical before erupting it toward occlusion. In this case report, we demonstrated the use of a mini-implant and a modified Nance button-assisted forced eruption of an impacted canine. The 12-month follow-up review showed that the results were maintained during the time, and the previously impacted teeth showed intact gingival attachments. A conservative surgical exposure of the impacted canine and well-planned biomechanics helped us achieve a desirable, esthetic outcome.

    Orthognathic surgery offers a predictable treatment option for patients with skeletal discrepancies and corresponding dental malocclusions. In cases where surgery is not advised due to significant medical co-morbidity, the orthodontist must approach the treatment using different mechanical modalities. Orthodontic mini-implants can be a valuable adjunct in these cases. We describe a case where a palatal mini-implant was used during orthodontic treatment in a patient with a complex capillary malformation, which precluded surgical correction.

    Tooth loss after traumatic dental injuries (TDI) often requires rehabilitation with a multidisciplinary treatment plan. In growing patients, the therapeutic approach may be different than in adults; the scientific literature offers alternative solutions even if they involve long, complex and uncomfortable treatments. Among the possible therapeutic options, implant-prosthetic treatment through the use of mini-implants is presented in this complex case report with a 14-year follow-up.

    The aim of this case report was to demonstrate the effects of the Maxillary Skeletal Expander (MSE) used to orthopedically correct a maxillary constriction, on the respiratory functions and swimming performance of a Para-athlete. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images taken before and after MSE activation were used to demonstrate the disarticulation of midpalatal suture, and the changes involved in dental and nasomaxillary structures, nasal cavity and pharyngeal airway. Respiratory tests included: maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressure, oral peak expiratory flow and inspiratory nasal flow. The 6-min-walk and heart rate recovery tests were also performed. Patient\'s swimming performances during national swimming competitions were compared. CBCT images showed that palatal expansion was 5.91  mm at the suture, and that nasal and pharyngeal airways increased in volume by 31%. All respiratory indices improved after MSE activation. The 6-min walk test and heart rate recovery test performance also improved after the maxillary expansion. Patient\'s swimming performance in all category were anemic prior to the treatment, but performance improved considerably after the expansion, particularly the 100 m-Backstroke modality. MSE treatment had a significant positive impact in respiratory functions and sport performance.

    OBJECTIVE: Dentition defect with malocclusion is a common occurrence in the clinical work. To restore proper occlusion, preprosthetic corrections of these malposed teeth are often indispensible. The use of orthodontic mini-implants as temporary anchorage devices provides a plausible treatment for those patients with local problems. The aim of this study was to present two cases using local orthodontic traction in conjunction with mini-implants to provide necessary conditions for implant rehabilitation in three dimensional space. Clinical consideration: Two cases who had dentition defect with malocclusion were included in the present study. As both of them rejected crown reduction or orthodontics treatment, local orthodontic traction by mini-implants was used to restore normal space for implant rehabilitation in three dimensions. Careful mechanics analysis and personalized mechanical device were under consideration. The results showed that the biological responses of the corrected teeth and the surrounding bony structures appeared normal and acceptable. Moreover the patients achieved an ideal local occlusion with a short treatment time.
    CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion local orthodontic traction by mini-implants was a less-invasive and short-term method with favorable effects and less necessary occlusal adjustments.

    The idea of absolute anchorage has always been an elusive goal for clinicians. Orthodontic mini-implants or temporary anchorage devices allow tooth movements previously thought to be impossible or difficult. Although extensive literature exists on use of temporary anchorage devices, their failures have been hardly focused upon, especially implant fracture. The following case report describes successful management of fractured orthodontic mini-implant.

    Because of the potential morbidity and complications associated with surgical procedures, limiting the extent of orthognathic surgery is a desire for many orthodontic patients. An eighteen-year-old woman had a severe Class III malocclusion and required bi-maxillary surgery. By changing the patient\'s maxillary occlusal plane using orthodontic mini-implants, she was able to avoid the maxillary surgery; requiring only a mandibular setback surgery. To accurately predict the post-surgery outcome, we applied a new soft tissue prediction method. We were able to follow and report the long-term result of her combined orthodontic and orthognathic treatment. The changes to her occlusal plane continue to appear stable over 6 years later.
