    Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the educational quality and appropriateness of laparoscopic radical nephrectomy videos on YouTube using the LAParoscopicsurgery Video EducationalGuidelineS (LAP-VEGaS) criteria. It focuses on understanding the role of online resources in medical education and objectively assessing their quality. Methods: A search was conducted on YouTube™ for \"laparoscopic radical nephrectomy\" on August 15, 2023, leading to the selection of the first 125 videos. Videos were chosen based on length (over 1 minute), content (laparoscopic radical nephrectomy), language (English), and nonindustry sponsorship. The LAP-VEGaS criteria, encompassing 16 items under five main categories: video introduction, case presentation, procedures, outcomes, and educational content, were used for evaluation, assigning 0 or 1 point per criterion. Results: Out of 100 videos meeting the criteria, they were divided into two groups: personal uploads by expert surgeons (Group-1) and institutional uploads by hospitals and organizations (Group-2). Group-2 videos had longer durations and higher LAP-VEGaS scores. The transperitoneal approach was preferred in 88% of the videos, and 84% were right laparoscopic nephrectomies. Group-2 had significantly higher LAP-VEGaS scores (6.3 ± 2.2) compared with Group-1 (4 ± 2.1) (P < 0,001). The number of videos published over the years increased, while LAP-VEGaS scores fluctuated. Conclusion: Assessing laparoscopic radical nephrectomy videos on YouTube™ using the LAP-VEGaS criteria helped understand the role of online sources in medical education. Institutional uploads were found to be more successful in educational aspects, emphasizing the need for continuous quality review of online medical education materials. This study also guides how to evaluate and improve medical education materials on online platforms.

    Background Social media, notably YouTube (Google LLC, Mountain View, California, United States), has transformed global communication and access to information. In Saudi Arabia, with high internet usage, YouTube influencers play a significant role in shaping health attitudes and behaviors. This study investigates the impact of YouTube influencers on health behaviors among Saudi Arabian residents, considering the unique cultural and socio-demographic context. Methods We conducted a community-based cross-sectional study in Saudi Arabia. We surveyed a convenience sample of 703 young Saudi participants from September 2022 to March 2023. Data collection utilized an anonymous online questionnaire distributed via popular social media platforms. The questionnaire covered sociodemographic information, health habits, perceptions of influencers, and their impact on health attitudes. Descriptive statistics, including percentages, frequencies, means, and standard deviations, were employed to summarize participant characteristics and health-related variables. Pearson\'s chi-square test was utilized to compare response variables among different groups. Results Findings show significant gender disparities in health habits, with males more likely to smoke but females less physically active (p<0.01). Influencers were perceived as encouraging healthy habits by 71.7% of participants, yet 55.6% also believed they promoted unhealthy habits. Positive outcomes included dietary improvements (62.6%) and smoking cessation (20.5%). People preferred healthcare influencers the most (66.8%), followed by sports and fashion influencers. Conclusions This study highlights YouTube influencers\' substantial influence on health behaviors in Saudi Arabia. It suggests the potential for influencers, especially in healthcare, to contribute positively to public health. Viewer discernment is essential due to varying influencer impacts. These findings underscore the complex role of YouTube influencers in shaping health behaviors and suggest avenues for targeted health interventions.

    OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the content, reliability and quality levels of YouTube™ videos regarding craniosynostosis for parents\' information.
    METHODS: A keyword search for \'craniosynostosis\' was conducted on YouTube, and the uniform resource locators of the first 160 videos were initially recorded and evaluated. Ninety-four videos that met the inclusion criteria were analysed. Each video received a score ranging from 0 to 9 points, classifying them as low-content (0-3), moderate-content (4-6) and high-content (7-9). The reliability scores adapted from DISCERN and Global Quality Scale (GQS) scores were recorded.
    RESULTS: The median content score for the videos was 4. According to the content scores, 34% of included videos (n = 32) were classified as low-content, 60.6% (n = 57) as moderate-content, and 5.3% (n = 5) as high-content. The median reliability score for the videos was 3, and the median GQS score was 3. The reliability and quality levels of videos classified as high-content and moderate-content were significantly superior to low-content videos (P < .05). Laypersons were identified as the most frequent source of information in the videos. However, most of the videos lacked information about syndromic/non-syndromic forms and specific complications. The importance of early referral/timing of surgery and minimally invasive surgical treatment techniques was mentioned in all high-content videos.
    CONCLUSIONS: The results of the present study suggest that YouTube™ in its current format, is not a fully trustable source for parents seeking information on craniosynostosis. Craniofacial units must increase the content, quality and reliability level of videos on craniosynostosis.

    Introduction The increasing prevalence of obesity has led to the popularity of bariatric and metabolic surgery, often sought through medical tourism due to constraints within public healthcare systems. This study aimed to examine the quality and impact of YouTube videos related to bariatric surgery within the context of medical tourism. Materials and methods In June 2023, a YouTube search for \"Bariatric Surgery Medical Tourism\" and \"Obesity Surgery Medical Tourism\" yielded the top 200 videos, from which 33 were chosen after applying exclusion criteria. These videos underwent further screening based on source, duration, and content. Quality was assessed using established scales, including the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) criteria, the Global Quality Scale (GQS), and modified DISCERN score. Results Thirty-three videos were chosen for comprehensive analysis. Among the videos, 48.5% portrayed patient experiences in the context of medical tourism bariatric surgery, providing valuable insights. The videos had varying durations and engagement metrics, with an average GQS score of 2.09, JAMA score of 2.57, and DISCERN score of 3.06. Notably, videos depicting patient experiences had distinct characteristics and higher evaluation scores, emphasizing their significance within the study. Conclusion This study assessed YouTube videos related to bariatric surgery within the realm of medical tourism. The research illuminated diverse facets of medical tourism concerning obesity surgery and the quality of information disseminated on YouTube. Although patient experience videos received higher quality ratings, the overall reliability and content diversity underscored the potential and challenges of utilizing YouTube as an information source for medical tourism.

    BACKGROUND: The world\'s population is in a demographic transition with a rising ageing population. Tooth loss is frequent among older people resulting in the replacement of natural teeth using complete or partial dentures. YouTube™ is the second most popular website in the world and is being increasingly used to access health care information. The aim of this study is to evaluate the usefulness and reliability of the information in YouTube™ videos regarding denture care.
    METHODS: The YouTube™ website was used to systematically search for videos using the keyword \'denture care\'. Videos meeting the eligibility criteria were assessed separately by two independent researchers. The usefulness of the videos was assessed using the Global Quality Assessment Scale and a customized usefulness scoring scheme. Based on these scores, the usefulness of the videos was categorized as low, medium and high. A modified DISCERN tool (mDISCERN) was used for assessing reliability with scores ranging from 0 to 5. Other video characteristics like source/ownership of the videos, duration, views, likes, dislikes, number of days posted, like ratio, view ratio, interaction index and Video Power Index were also obtained. Statistical analysis was carried out using the Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman correlation test and multiple linear regression analysis.
    RESULTS: A total of 120 videos were included. Based on the usefulness score, the usefulness of 65.8% of videos were classified as low, 32.5% were medium and 1.6% had high usefulness. The mDISCERN score for 74.2% of videos was 2 or below 2 indicating that the majority of videos had low reliability. Video characteristics did not differ significantly according to the usefulness of videos. Videos uploaded by dentists or dental hygienists had significantly higher usefulness scores (p < 0.001) in comparison to videos uploaded by other sources. However, reliability scores did not differ based on the sources of the videos. Video reliability was found to have a significant (B = 2.08, p < 0.001) positive association with video usefulness.
    CONCLUSIONS: YouTube™ cannot be recommended as the only source of information for denture care as most videos received low usefulness and reliability ratings in our study. Dentists and dental health professionals could take an active part in enhancing denture care-related content on YouTube™ and enable patients to have adequate and reliable knowledge of denture hygiene practices.

    OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the reliability of YouTube™ videos on zirconia crowns in pediatric dentistry.
    METHODS: On January 4, 2022, a search was performed using the term \"pediatric zirconia crown\". The first 100 videos on the subject were included. Non-English videos, duplicates, and off-topic videos were excluded. For each video, an examiner recorded the number of views, likes, comments, channel followers, upload date, duration, and category rating. Two examiners assessed the reliability of the information presented in the videos using DISCERN, a brief questionnaire and scale score used to assess in a valid and reliable way the quality of information on treatment choices for health problems. Descriptive and inferential analyses were performed (p < 0.05).
    RESULTS: Of the initial 100 videos, 72 were excluded because of language, duplication, and subject matter. The 28 remaining videos had an average of 3.5 comments, 8,896.18 channel followers, 5,614.00 views, 19.14 likes, and a duration of 840.32 s. The average view rate was 7.54 per day ± 10,206.81. There was a statistically significant difference between the number of views and comments (p < 0.001), likes and comments (p < 0.001), and likes and views (p = 0.006). According to the DISCERN, none of the videos received the maximum grade to be considered very good. Two were considered good, nine fair, fourteen poor, and three very poor.
    CONCLUSIONS: Given that the majority of YouTube™ videos currently available on zirconia crowns in pediatric dentistry were deemed unreliable according to the DISCERN questionnaire, caution should be exercised when using the information presented.

    YouTube™ ( http://www.youtube.com ), as a very popular video site worldwide, is increasingly being used as a platform to disseminate health information. The purposes of this review were to assess the overall usefulness of the information on the prevention of valproic acid use in women during pregnancy on YouTube™ for patients.
    The YouTube™ website was systematically using 8 keywords. One hundred and fifty four videos meet the selection criteria. The researcher evaluated the video duration, days since upload, views and the likes. These videos are categorized as Education, News & Politics and People & Blogs. We designed a usefulness scoring scheme to assess videos quality and classified them as \"slightly useful\", \"useful\" and \"very useful\". The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to determine whether differences existed between total usefulness scores and categories and Pearson chi-square test for categorical variables.
    The majority of videos were educational (62.8%). The \"People & Blogs\" and \"News & Politics\" videos scored significantly higher, but had no significant difference in days since upload, views, views/day or likes. More than half of the videos (91/154) were categorized as \"useful\". The mean posted days (p = 0.045) was significantly different in the useful group compared with the slightly useful group. There were no correlation between usefulness and the number of days since upload, duration, views, views/day, or likes.
    YouTube™ is a promising source of information regarding the use of valproic acid during pregnancy. \"News & Politics\" videos are the most usefulness. Considering the presence of more slightly useful information, publishers need to improve more comprehensive video content that includes replacement medications, diagnoses and treatments. In the healthcare information space, consumers need to be directed to reliable video.

    Aim The objective of this study was to evaluate the reliability and quality of YouTube™ (Google, Inc., Mountain View, CA) videos pertaining to anaesthesia awareness. Methods We evaluated the most commonly viewed 100 videos pertaining to anaesthesia awareness. The YouTube™ videos\' image type, qualification of the uploaders, video content, video length in minutes, upload time, time since upload, total view count, daily view count and comment and like counts were recorded. The quality of the YouTube™ videos was evaluated using the Global Quality Scale (GQS), and the reliability was determined using the modified DISCERN scale. Results Of all videos, 34 (34%) were uploaded directly by physicians, 16 (16%) by patients, 14 (14%) by health channels, 13 (13%) by TV shows and 23 (23%) by others. The mean video length was 11.48±11.96 minutes. The average DISCERN score was 4.47±0.58 in the professional and 3.28±0.65 in the non-professional video group (p<0.001). The mean GQS score was 4.47±0.52 in the professional and 3.35±0.67 in the non-professional video group (p<0.001). Conclusion The results of this study indicate that a significant portion of the YouTube™ videos pertaining to anaesthesia awareness were uploaded directly by physicians or by health channels. Physicians and professional health institutions should be promoted to provide accurate and more reliable videos to direct patients to the right solutions for their problems. YouTube™ videos should be subjected to supervision before they can be publicly viewed.

    OBJECTIVE: The implant\'s supporting structure differs from that of the teeth when plaque accumulates, making it more prone to inflammation and bone loss. To ensure the implant\'s longevity, an effective maintenance protocol should be followed. This study aimed to evaluate the information on oral hygiene procedures at home for implant-supported fixed prosthesis.
    METHODS: The keywords \'cleaning dental implant,\' \'how to clean dental implant,\' and \'dental implant hygiene\' used to search for videos on YouTube™. Following the exclusions, two researchers independently analysed the remaining 100 videos for demographic data and content usefulness.
    RESULTS: In terms of usefulness score distribution, 53.52% of the videos were considered slightly useful, 38.4% moderately useful and 8.1% very useful. The video content had the least quantity of knowledge about toothpaste choice (11.1%), but the greatest quantity of knowledge on flossing (68.7%).
    CONCLUSIONS: According to the study\'s findings, there is presently no evidence-based information on YouTube™ on dental implant oral hygiene protocols for home care procedures hygiene education. Therefore, dental care professionals should analyse the information\'s quality and reliability before recommending it to patients.

    OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the content and quality of YouTube™️ videos about pit and fissure sealant application.
    METHODS: The keywords \"fissure sealant\" and \"pit and fissure sealant\" were used to search for YouTube™️ content, after the first 300 video results were evaluated. Considering the exclusion criteria, a final sample of 110 videos was obtained, which were analysed in terms of the number of views, duration in minutes, the number of subscribers, the total number of \"likes\" and \"dislikes,\" the number of comments, days elapsed since upload, the interaction index, and the viewing rate. Global Quality Scoring (GQS) index was also used as a second evaluation method and videos were classified according to the quality of information that it contained as follows: good, moderate, and poor.
    RESULTS: Most of the videos were uploaded by dentists/specialists. Among them, 14 videos had good quality, 63 were of moderate quality, and 33 were poor informative. The good-quality videos had statistically significantly higher interaction index and viewing rates, and the majority of the videos had a GQS-2 score. The viewing rate was positively correlated with duration and the number of views, \"likes\" and \"dislikes,\" comments, and subscribers.
    CONCLUSIONS: There is considerable variability in the scientific accuracy and quality of health information on the Internet. While there are videos that provide sufficient health information, there are also videos that contain insufficient or even incorrect information. Dental care professionals should be aware of misinformation found on YouTube™️ and ensure that patients always have access to accurate and reliable information.
