Introduction Most fungal infections are responsive to antifungal therapy. However, failure to diagnose the same can significantly affect the quality of lives of patients. Timely identification of fungal infections and their association with varied demographic and clinical parameters will help in improving the prognosis of the patient. The present study aims to evaluate the prevalence of fungal infections among various age groups and genders and also to evaluate the association of fungal infections with demographic parameters. Methods This study included a sample size of n = 600. The demographic and clinical details were compiled and transferred to IBM SPSS Version 23 software (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY) for statistical analysis. Descriptive and Pearson chi-square tests were used to analyze the association of the type of fungal infection with gender, age, and comorbidities. A p-value of less than 0.05 is considered statistically significant. Results Angular cheilitis (40%, 240), followed by denture stomatitis (37.5%, 225), were the most common type of fungal infection among the sample population, and the elderly age group (51-72 years) was the most affected. Angular cheilitis was the most common infection among both males (21.4%, 128) and females (18.6%, 112), but candidiasis was reported more in females (18%, 108) than males (3%, 18) (p = 0.00). Angular cheilitis (32%, 192) and candidiasis (18%, 108) were more observed in association with anemia; however, denture stomatitis (34%, 204) was significantly higher among diabetics (p = 0.00). Conclusion The identification of associated systemic and demographic factors is as important as the treatment of fungal infection itself. The recognition of fungal infections and the role of parameters like age, gender, and systemic comorbidities in the development of fungal infections will have valuable implications for public health. Future research is required for a clear understanding of the same.

Undoubtedly, diagnosing and managing infections is one of the most challenging issues for orofacial clinicians. As a result of the diversity of symptoms, complicated behavior, and sometimes confusing nature of these conditions, it has become increasingly difficult to diagnose and treat them. It also highlights the need to gain a deeper insight into the orofacial microbiome as we try to improve our understanding of it. In addition to changes in patients\' lifestyles, such as changes in diet, smoking habits, sexual practices, immunosuppressive conditions, and occupational exposures, there have been changes in patients\' lifestyles that complicate the issue. Recent years have seen the development of new infection treatments due to the increased knowledge about the biology and physiology of infections. This review aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the types of infections in the mouth, including the types that viruses, fungi, or bacteria may cause. It is important to note that we searched the published literature in the Scopus, Medline, Google Scholar, and Cochran databases from 2010 to 2021 using the following keywords: \"Orofacial/Oral Infections,\" \"Viral/Fungal/Bacterial Infections\", \"Oral Microbiota\" And \"Oral Microflora\" without limiting our search to languages and study designs. According to the evidence, the most common infections in the clinic include herpes simplex virus, human papillomavirus, Candida albicans, Aspergillus, Actinomycosis, and Streptococcus mutans. The purpose of this study is to review the new findings on characteristics, epidemiology, risk factors, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and new treatment for these types of infectious diseases.

Chemotherapy usually causes complications affecting several tissues such as oral mucosa. In this case report, a soft palate oral ulcer caused by chemotherapy was treated by ozone gas. This kind of treatment is known for its antimicrobial, regenerative and analgesic proprieties. The results show a complete resolution of the lesion within 2 weeks of treatment. Ozone therapy demonstrates greater effectiveness with respect to this kind of oral lesion compared to traditional therapy. Considering this evidence, ozone therapy should be considered as a useful tool for the adjuvant therapy of oral complications in oncologic patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Intensive chemotherapy can have side effects, particularly affecting tissue with higher turnover. Therefore, there is a clinical need to prevent or to treat such complications.Ozone therapy could improve oral mucosa healing and have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial effects to prevent suprainfections. To date, there are no reported cases of oral ulcers in oncologic patients being completely resolved using ozone in the literature.Medical and dental doctors should collaborate with regards to complex patients to prevent such types of complications, discovering these clinical cases that are unknown in the literature and treating patients in a more comprehensive way.

The incidence of oral fungal infections has increased in recent years as a result of factors such as increased number of solid organ transplantations and the widespread use of immunosuppressive drug therapies. This article reviews the diagnosis and treatment of oral fungal infections. At one time oral fungal infections were a relatively uncommon event, but with advances in health care and polypharmacy in an increasingly aging population, these infections are becoming a more routine clinical finding. The dental practitioner therefore needs to be familiar with the diagnosis and management of oral fungal infections.
