    UNASSIGNED: Evaluating the canal-centering and apical transportation ability of endodontic file systems working with different kinematics but of similar cross section.
    UNASSIGNED: Sixty human maxillary first molar mesiobuccal (MB) roots were assigned to three experimental groups based on instrumentation techniques: Reciproc Blue (RB), Mtwo (M2), and OneShape (OS). Pre- and post-instrumentation micro-computed tomographic analysis was performed. Centering ability and apical transportation were analyzed at 3 mm, 6 mm, and 9 mm short of the apex. Statistical analysis was conducted using Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test.
    UNASSIGNED: OS showed better canal-centering ability than RB and M2 at 3 mm, 6 mm, and 9 mm. No significant difference among the tested groups was observed during the assessment of apical transportation (P < 0.05).
    UNASSIGNED: The systems evaluated safely prepared curved MB canals with minimal canal transportation. OS showed superior canal-centering ability compared to the other two groups.

    BACKGROUND: Despite substantial breakthroughs in instrumentation systems and pharmaceutical interventions, pain following endodontic therapy remains a serious concern. The effect of the type of endodontic instrumentation system in post-operative pain after endodontic therapy has been a matter of debate.
    OBJECTIVE: To evaluate different endodontic instrumentation systems, namely Reciproc (GmbH, Munich), OneShape® (MicroMega, France), Protaper Gold (Dentsply Sirona, USA), and Hyflex® EDM (Coltène/Whaledent Inc., USA) file systems, regarding post-operative pain after endodontic therapy Methods and materials: The endodontic department treated healthy patients aged 20 to 50 years who were experiencing symptoms of irreparable pulpitis in one or more maxillary molars or mandibular molars. Five hundred was the determined size of the sample. The study participants were divided into five categories, each comprising 100 participants. These categories were: Category 1: Reciproc instrumentation system. Category 2: OneShape® instrumentation system. Category 3: ProtaperGold instrumentation system. Category 4: HyFlex® EDM instrumentation system. Category 5: Control (stainless steel K-files). Following endodontic therapy, these scores were recorded at 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours using the VAS scale.
    RESULTS: The visual analog scale (VAS) score (mean±SD) in the control group was 0.73± 0.40 (<0.001). The VAS score in the Reciproc group was 0.43± 0.05 (<0.001). The VAS score in the OneShape® group was 0.36±0.09 (<0.001). The VAS score in the Protaper Gold group was 0.41 ±0.08 (<0.001). The VAS score in the HyFlex® EDM group was 0.55 ±0.02 (<0.001). The VAS score in all instrumentation techniques at 72 hours follow-up was lesser in comparison to a control group with meaningful statistical significance (<0.001). However, the post-operative pain among the Reciproc, OneShape®, Protaper Gold, and HyFlex® EDM instrumentation systems was not different clinically when compared among themselves. However, VAS values were greater in OneShape® and HyFlex® EDM compared to Reciproc and Protaper Gold, showing increased post-operative pain in OneShape and HyFlex® EDM compared to Reciproc and Protaper Gold. It was also observed that there was a decline in the VAS score in all instrumentation systems as the follow-up period increased from 6 hours to 72 hours, with maximum post-operative pain at 6 hours of follow-up and minimum post-operative pain at 72 hours of follow-up. However, the decline was lesser in OneShape® and HyFlex® EDM in comparison to Reciproc and Protaper Gold, with increased post-operative pain in OneShape® and HyFlex® EDM in comparison to Reciproc and Protaper Gold.
    CONCLUSIONS: Post-operative pain at all follow-ups of endodontic procedures was less in Reciproc, OneShape®, Protaper Gold, and HyFlex® EDM than in the control group. VAS scores were higher in the OneShape® and HyFlex® EDM groups compared to the Reciproc and Protaper Gold groups, indicating increased post-operative pain with OneShape® and HyFlex® EDM instruments in comparison to Reciproc and Protaper Gold.

    UNASSIGNED: The present study aimed to compare and evaluate debris and irrigant extrusion from curved root canals using different rotary systems.
    UNASSIGNED: 30 single-rooted mandibular canines were used in this study. The crown was decoronated, working length and initial apical diameter were established. A 1.5% agar gel model was used in this study. Samples were assigned randomly into 3 groups (n = 10 teeth per group). Protaper Next, OneShape, and Hanudent files were used according to the manufacturers\' instructions for canal instrumentation. Apically extruded debris and irrigant was were computed by deducting the initial weight of the test apparatus without a tooth from its weight after the biomechanical preparation. Comparative analysis of the amount of apically extruded debris and irrigant for each of the instruments and the experimental models was performed.
    UNASSIGNED: The statistically significant difference was found between the three experimental groups. (P < .05). Among all the groups least extrusion was observed in the Protaper Next group when used in combination with conventional irrigation.
    UNASSIGNED: All the instruments produced apically extruded debris and irrigant, but the maximum was seen with OneShape among the experimental groups.

    BACKGROUND: Prevention of the debris from extruding to the periapical region is an important aspect to be taken care of as its extrusion can result in pain, periapical inflammation, and delayed healing owing to the presence of highly infective components in the debris.
    OBJECTIVE: The present trial was aimed to compare and assess the amount of debris extruded apically using the single-file reciprocating system - WaveOne GOLD and single file rotary system - OneShape in root canal preparations in vitro.
    METHODS: Thirty mandibular premolars were divided into two groups (15 samples each) prepared with a single-file reciprocating system - WaveOne GOLD and single-file rotary system - OneShape. Debris extruded was collected and then stored in an incubator. The final weight was calculated after obtaining the mean of three consecutive weights obtained for each tooth. The data were compared using the ANOVA and Turkey\'s post hoc analysis.
    RESULTS: Debris extrusions were recorded in both groups and analysis revealed statistical differences in weight before and after the instrumentation procedures in both groups. When compared, reciprocating single file - WaveOne GOLD extruded more debris than rotary single file system - OneShape with a P < 0.001.
    CONCLUSIONS: The rotary instrumentation systems extrude lesser debris apically than the reciprocating instrumentation system. The difference found was statistically significant.

    Shaping ability of a file plays an important role during instrumentation in an endodontic treatment. This study aimed to compare the shaping ability of OneShape (OS), Hero Shaper (HS), and Revo-S (RS) instruments in simulated L-shaped canals.
    Forty-eight simulated L-shaped canals were prepared to an apical size of 25 using OS, HS, and RS (all from Micro-Mega SA, Besançon, France), (n = 16 canals/group) systems. The amount of resin removed after each canal\'s preparation was measured and compared after producing a composite image made from the superimposition of pre and post-instrumented canals. Canal aberrations and the preparation time were also recorded. The data were statistically analysed by using ANOVA, Tukey, and Chi-square tests.
    One file fractured during instrumentation in the RS group. A significant difference was found at the apical end of the prepared simulated canal between the groups, with RS showing the least amount of resin removal from the inner side of the canals and HS showing the highest amount of resin removal from the outer side (P < 0.05). Regarding the total width of the canals after preparation, a significant difference was found between the groups at the apical end and the straight portion of the canals, and RS removed the least amount of resin at the straight portion of the canals (P < 0.05). No statistically significant differences were found between the different instruments regarding canal aberrations\' incidence (P > 0.05).
    All of the files showed a tendency to straighten the canals, whereas OS files maintained the original canal curvatures well.

    UNASSIGNED: Different single-file instruments and kinematics have been introduced on the market. It is important to know the cyclic fatigue performance of these instruments in these new kinematics such as reciprocation of Optimum Torque Reverse (OTR) motion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance to cyclic fatigue of F6 SkyTaper and OneShape used in continuous rotation (proper rotation) or in reciprocating OTR motion.
    UNASSIGNED: A total of forty-eight nickel-titanium files were tested. Twenty-four instruments of both brands were divided into two groups (n=12) on the basis of the motion tested: continuous rotation (group 1) or reciprocating OTR motion (group 2). Resistance to cyclic fatigue was determined by recording time to fracture (TtF) in a stainless steel artificial canal with a 60° angle of curvature and 5 mm radius of curvature. Data were analysed by two-way analysis of variance and post-hoc Bonferroni tests for multiple comparisons with P<0.05 as the level of significance.
    UNASSIGNED: F6 SkyTaper showed higher TtF compared with OneShape, both in continuous and in OTR motion (P<0.0001). The two tested instruments showed higher cyclic fatigue resistance in reciprocating OTR motion than continuous rotation (P<0.0001).
    UNASSIGNED: OTR motion significantly improves cyclic fatigue resistance of the tested instruments. In addition, F6 SkyTaper showed higher cyclic fatigue resistance than OneShape in both motions.

    BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the amount of root canal dentin removed and apical transportation occurrence after instrumentation of mesiobuccal canals of maxillary molars with ProTaper Next (PTN [Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland]), OneShape (OS [MicroMega, Besançon, France]), and EdgeFile (EF [Edge Endo, Albuquerque, NM]) rotary systems.
    METHODS: Twenty-seven mesiobuccal canals of maxillary molars were used. Canals were randomly divided into 3 groups for canal preparation: PTN, EF X3, or OS (n = 9 for each group). Micro-computed tomographic imaging was used to measure apical transportation (mm) and the volume of dentin removed (mm3). The amount of dentin removed was measured for the coronal portion and for the whole canal length. Superposition of pre- and postoperative cross-sectional apical slices were used to measure apical transportation at 1 mm from the apex; the differences were evaluated using the Kruskal-Wallis test and Wilcoxon analysis. The Spearman correlation coefficient was used to display the relationship between variables for each group. The significance level was set at P < .05.
    RESULTS: The percentages of the amount of dentin removed on the coronal portion and the amount removed for the whole canal length were statistically similar between groups (P > .05). The average amount of apical transportation for the PTN, OS, and EF X3 were 0.197, 0.263, and 0.218 mm, respectively. Statistically, there were no significant differences between the 3 rotary instruments for apical transportation.
    CONCLUSIONS: The amount of dentin removed for the coronal third portion and the whole canal length was similar for the PTN, OS, and EF X3 rotary instruments. Although there were differences in the sizes of apical enlargement, no apical transportation was observed in any of the instrumentation systems.

    This study evaluated the effect of three different NiTi instrumentation techniques on the incidence of microcracks after the preparation of straight and curved root canals using micro-CT. Roots from mandibular premolars and maxillary molars (n = 66) with the same mean canal curvatures were assigned to three groups of straight and three groups of curved roots (n = 11). After preoperative micro-CT scans, root canals were prepared with Reciproc, OneShape and ProTaper Next to size 25. Specimens were scanned again, and pre- and post-operative cross-sectional images (n = 75 263) were screened to identify the presence of dentinal microcracks. Overall, microcracks were detected in 2.97% (n = 2236) of the cross-sectional images. No new dentinal microcracks were observed after root canal instrumentation of straight and curved canals with the tested NiTi systems. Instrumentation with Reciproc, OneShape and ProTaper Next did not induce the formation of dentinal microcracks irrespective of canal curvature.

    The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of environmental temperature, heat-treatment*** and design on the cyclic fatigue resistance of OneShape (OS), OneShape new generation (OSNG) and One Curve (OC) NiTi rotary single-file instruments. Cyclic fatigue testing of NiTi instruments was performed in an artificial canal with a 5-mm radius of curvature and a 60° angle of curvature located 5 mm from the tip of the instrument. During the experiment 3 different temperatures were used in a thermostatic bath with electronic and infrared controls: 0°, 20° and 35 °C. Sixty OneShape, 60 OneShape new generation and 60 One Curve instruments were rotated in the artificial canal until fracture occurred and the number of cycles to fracture (NCF) and the length of the fractured fragment (FL) was recorded. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA test at the 5% significance level. Fatigue resistance was significantly higher as the environmental temperature decreased, with differences ranging from 61 to 791%. OC instruments were significantly more resistant to cyclic fatigue than OS and OSNG instruments at all the temperatures tested (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference with respect to the length of the fractured file fragments for all the instruments tested at all the temperatures tested (P > 0.05). Within the limitation of the present study, fatigue resistance of the files was significantly increased when the environmental temperature decreased. OC instruments were significantly more resistant to cyclic fatigue than OS and OSNG instruments at all the temperatures tested.

    BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the root canal shaping effect of instruments manufactured from nickel titanium, M-Wire, and Gold wire with different glide path preparation techniques.
    METHODS: One hundred thirty-five mesiobuccal canals of extracted human maxillary molars were randomly divided into 3 equal groups (N = 45) for glide path preparation with K-files (KF) (Dentsply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland), One G (OG) files (Micro-Mega, Besançon, France), and ProGlider (PG) files (Dentsply Sirona). Specimens of each glide path group were further divided equally into 3 groups for instrumentation with ProTaper Next (PTN, Dentsply Sirona), One Shape (OS, Micro-Mega), and WaveOne Gold (WOG, Dentsply Sirona) systems (n = 15). Micro-computed tomographic imaging was used to scan teeth before instrumentation and after shaping to compare centering ratio and canal transportation values at the apical, midroot, and coronal levels and the overall changes in canal volume. Data sets were statistically analyzed (analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis H tests).
    RESULTS: The centering ratios for all groups were statistically similar at all levels. Apical canal transportation was significantly high for K/OS and K/PTN (P = .003). Midroot canal transportation was significantly high for K/PTN, K/OS, and OG/OS (P = .0003). Coronal canal transportation was significantly high for K/PTN and K/OS (P = .011). The highest change in canal volume was observed with all PTN groups and the lowest with PG/WOG (P = .06).
    CONCLUSIONS: WOG manufactured from Gold wire combined with PG showed better root canal shaping ability and removed less dentin from the canal walls. The nickel-titanium (OS) and M-Wire (PTN) instruments used in combination with KF significantly transported more canals. PTN removed the most dentin from the canal walls regardless of the GPP technique.
