    BACKGROUND: Operative notes represent the critical record of a surgical procedure, encompassing comprehensive details encountered throughout the operation. Recognizing the importance of comprehensive documentation, the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) developed the Good Surgical Practice guidelines, which emphasize accurately recording every procedure and specifying the necessary parameters for each operative note. These guidelines help maintain high standards of surgical care and patient safety.
    METHODS: A retrospective review of 88 orthopaedic surgery operative notes for fracture neck of femurs was conducted at Gezira Centre for Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology (GCOST) from March 12 to May 28, 2022. The review assessed 18 parameters against RCS guidelines. Statistical analysis was performed using Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS, version 25.0; IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Armonk, NY), which facilitated comprehensive data examination.
    RESULTS: In 37 cases (42.05%), the operation notes were written by a medical officer. In 29 cases (32.95%), an orthopaedic resident authored the notes. A specialist documented the notes in 21 cases (23.86%), and a consultant wrote the notes in one case (1.14%). Over 90% of the notes included surgeon and assistant names, procedure names, operative diagnoses, operative procedures, prosthesis details, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and antibiotic prophylaxis, and signatures. The name of the theatre anaesthetist, elective/emergency details, and additional procedures with reasons were absent in all notes. Less than 50% of the notes documented the time of the procedure, type of incision, operative findings, anticipated blood loss, closure technique specifics, and complications.
    CONCLUSIONS: The study emphasizes the shortcomings in the operating notes, underscoring the necessity for training initiatives to enhance the recording by medical officers and orthopaedic trainees. Implementing structured templates that adhere to RCS standards can improve the comprehensiveness and consistency of operating notes, effectively resolving existing discrepancies. Regular audits and feedback sessions are essential for identifying and rectifying persistent issues. It is recommended to arrange workshops and seminars to educate medical officials and trainees on the skills of efficient note-taking and thorough documentation procedures.

    BACKGROUND: Forensic Odontology developed as a discipline in 1898 with the publication of its first textbook; however, 126 years later, a standardised core curriculum for formal training in Forensic Odontology has yet to be decided. This website scoping review aims to provide information on three main distinct categories (and 17 subcategories): Availability, Content, and Quality of Forensic Odontology education globally. The information on formal education programmes was gathered by conducting a web search using \'Google Search\' in English, Arabic, Spanish, and French languages between June and July 2022.
    CONCLUSIONS: Fifty-six programmes from 18 countries met the inclusion criteria. Of the 14 master\'s and 42 diploma programmes, only 7.14% provided information on their websites from all the subcategories investigated. The highest numbers of master\'s and postgraduate diploma programmes were identified in Europe (18 programmes), South America (15), North America (11) and Asia (7). A practical aspect was included by 10 master\'s and 12 diploma programmes\' websites. Research integration in various forms was included by 11 master\'s and seven diploma programmes.
    CONCLUSIONS: Programme providers and applicants must critically consider the quality of the programme being designed or applied to as there are currently no international training standards in Forensic Odontology. This study has developed an \'International Database of Forensic Odontology Programmes\' (IDFOP).

    BACKGROUND: Cerebral venous pressures, sinus trans-stenosis gradients, and intracranial pressures are thought to be influenced by head position.
    OBJECTIVE: To investigate the intracranial manifestations of these changes in patients with cerebral venous outflow disorders (CVD).
    METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted on 22 consecutive adult patients who underwent diagnostic cerebral venography with rotational internal jugular vein (IJV) venography and superior sagittal sinus (SSS) pressure measurements in multiple head positions. Data on venous sinus pressures, IJV pressures, and lumbar puncture (LP) opening pressures (OP) were collected and analyzed.
    RESULTS: The study found that 21 (96%) patients experienced increases in SSS pressures with head rotation, with a mean increase of 25.4%. Intracranial trans-stenosis gradients showed significant variability with head position. Additionally, LP OP measurements increased by an average of 44.3% with head rotation. Dynamic IJV stenosis was observed in all patients during rotational testing.
    CONCLUSIONS: Head position significantly affects cerebral venous pressures, trans-stenosis gradients, and intracranial pressures in patients with CVD or intracranial hypertension. These findings highlight the need for dynamic venography in the diagnostic evaluation of these conditions to better understand their pathophysiology and improve treatment strategies.

    Crosslinking mass spectrometry (MS) has emerged as an important technique for elucidating the in-solution structures of protein complexes and the topology of protein-protein interaction networks. However, the expanding user community lacked an integrated visualisation tool that helped them make use of the crosslinking data for investigating biological mechanisms. We addressed this need by developing xiVIEW, a web-based application designed to streamline crosslinking MS data analysis, which we present here. xiVIEW provides a user-friendly interface for accessing coordinated views of mass spectrometric data, network visualisation, annotations extracted from trusted repositories like UniProtKB, and available 3D structures. In accordance with recent recommendations from the crosslinking MS community, xiVIEW (i) provides a standards compliant parser to improve data integration and (ii) offers accessible visualisation tools. By promoting the adoption of standard file formats and providing a comprehensive visualisation platform, xiVIEW empowers both experimentalists and modellers alike to pursue their respective research interests. We anticipate that xiVIEW will advance crosslinking MS-inspired research, and facilitate broader and more effective investigations into complex biological systems.

    Materialism, or beliefs and values that link wealth and consumption to success and happiness, negatively affects interpersonal relationships. Prior work has typically explained these effects through the allocation of personal resources (such as time or money) within relationships, thus using a behavioural route. However, this research proposes an alternative cognitive pathway to understand the adverse effects of materialism on interpersonal relationships. Three studies (N = 1389) employing correlational and experimental methodologies showed that materialism leads to heightened expectations and standards for a significant other, which are associated with poorer interpersonal outcomes. Specifically, materialism heightens the ideal standards that one has for a close other around achievement (e.g., ambition) and positive image (e.g., attractiveness), which are linked to higher conflict and lower relational satisfaction. Therefore, this work contributes to deepening our understanding of how consumer-oriented values shape social perceptions and negatively affect interpersonal dynamics. Practical applications include informing relationship counselling practices, developing educational interventions, and guiding marketers and media content producers towards messages that do not increase individual\'s ideals and standards for themselves and others. Further research should explore other factors that might alter this mediation (e.g., mindfulness) and examine the short- and long-term effects through longitudinal and interventional-based research.

    Congenital heart disease (CHD) represents a significant challenge in prenatal care due to low prenatal detection rates. Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers promising avenues for precise CHD prediction. In this study we conducted a systematic review according to the PRISMA guidelines, investigating the landscape of AI applications in prenatal CHD detection. Through searches on PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science, 621 articles were screened, yielding 28 relevant studies for analysis. Deep Learning (DL) emerged as the predominant AI approach. Data types were limited to ultrasound and MRI sequences mainly. This comprehensive analysis provides valuable insights for future research and clinical practice in CHD detection using AI applications.

    Hip fracture is a condition associated with ageing and frailty, with an associated prevalence of 7 per 10000 population in Spain. Evidence suggests that factors in the healthcare process can influence clinical outcomes, so the creation of a national registry is an opportunity to monitor and improve this process. In this regards, Electronic Health Record (EHR) can provide a large amount of data, that can be used to populate the Spanish National Hip Fracture Registry (RNFC, by its acronym in Spanish). However, this reuse of the EHR requires a prior effort in modelling and standardization to build the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes in a flexible, transparent, and scalable manner. In this work, a robust EHR reuse methodology is implemented to obtain EHR-derived data for the RNFC. The main result of this work was the design and implementation of an EHR data reuse methodology, which was able to load 1279 hip fracture cases and almost 68% of the required concepts from the RNFC.

    Rare neuromuscular diseases (NMDs) encompass various disorders of the nervous system and skeletal muscles, and present intricate challenges in diagnosis, treatment, and research due to their low prevalence and often diverse multisystemic manifestations. Leveraging collected patient data for secondary use and analysis holds promise for advancing medical understanding in this field. However, a certain level of data quality is a prerequisite for the methods that can be used to analyze data. The heterogeneous nature of NMDs poses a significant obstacle to the creation of standardized documentation, as there are still many challenges to accurate diagnosis and many discrepancies in the diagnostic process between different countries. This paper proposes the development of an information model tailored to NMDs, aiming to augment visibility, address deficiencies in documentation, and facilitate comprehensive analysis and research endeavors. By providing a structured framework, this model seeks to propel advancements in understanding and managing NMD, ultimately benefiting patients and healthcare providers worldwide.
