Fluoride dentifrices

  • 文章类型: Journal Article
干预后,CHX组表面损失较少(2.18±0.84),其次是CPC(2.34±0.74)和EO(2.46±0.97)组。在氟化亚锡洁牙剂组中,干预前,CHX组的表面损失为3.26±1.19,EO组,为3.18±1.31,在CPC组中,它是3.22±1.06。干预后,CHX发现的表面损失较少:组(1.90±0.54),其次是CPC(2.24±0.28)和EO(2.38±0.20)组。
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the impact of three various mouthwashes on the effectiveness of fluoride dentifrices in preventing enamel erosion.
METHODS: A total of 120 sound intact human premolar teeth which were extracted for orthodontic treatment were selected for the study. A 3 × 3 mm window section was positioned in the middle of the coronal surface of the tooth in order to define the study area. Each sample was placed in a solution of 1% citric acid (pH 3.5) for 10 minutes in order to produce an eroded surface. All samples were divided into two main groups (60 samples each) as follows: Group A for sodium fluoride dentifrices and group B for stannous fluoride dentifrices, again it is subdivided into: CHX: Chlohex ADS®, EO: Listerine®, CPC: Colgate® Plax (20 samples in each subgroup). After that, samples underwent the pH cycling model for 5 days. Samples were examined for surface loss using a scanning electron microscope.
RESULTS: In sodium fluoride dentifrices group, before intervention, the surface loss was 3.12 ± 1.03 in CHX group, 3.08 ± 1.20 in EO group, and 3.09 ± 0.96 in CPC group. After intervention, the less surface loss found with CHX group (2.18 ± 0.84), followed by CPC (2.34 ± 0.74) and EO group (2.46 ± 0.97). In stannous fluoride dentifrices group, before intervention, the surface loss in CHX group was 3.26 ± 1.19, in EO group, it was 3.18 ± 1.31, and in CPC group, it was 3.22 ± 1.06. After intervention, the less surface loss found with CHX: group (1.90 ± 0.54), followed by CPC (2.24 ± 0.28) and EO group (2.38 ± 0.20).
CONCLUSIONS: The present study concluded that the fluoride dentifrices\' preventive effects against tooth surface loss were unaffected by a different mouthwashes with varying compositions and major constituents. In terms of erosion, fluoridated toothpaste containing stannous fluoride was found to provide better surface loss protection than sodium fluoride.
CONCLUSIONS: Primary prevention and the eradication of contributing causes are the greatest strategies for preventing erosion. Simultaneously, antibacterial agent in the mouthwashes may help in enhancing the effect of fluoride in the enamel, owing to their high affinity for teeth structures. Therefore, in addition to cause-related treatment, further efforts to reduce tooth tissue loss are also necessary.

To determine the efficacy of high-fluoride toothpastes (≥ 2500 ppm) as compared to standard fluoride toothpastes (≤ 1500 ppm) in preventing dental caries.
Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and cluster-randomised trials comparing high-fluoride dentifrices (≥ 2500 ppm) with lower-concentration fluoride dentifrices (≤ 1500 ppm) with a follow-up period of at least 6 months were included. A random effects model was used to assess the mean differences in caries increment between the two types of dentifrices used. A fixed effects model was used to determine the preventive effect of high-concentration fluoride toothpastes compared with low-fluoride toothpastes. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were conducted when results indicated heterogeneity. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05.
Eight studies met the inclusion criteria. High-fluoride toothpaste use was statistically significantly associated with lower caries increment scores (pooled mean difference: -0.52 [95% CI, -0.67, -0.37], p = 0.00001). Subgroup analysis for the included studies reflected a significant reduction in I2 values from 99% to 18%. High-fluoride toothpastes were also associated with a greater preventive effect compared with low-fluoride toothpastes (pooled odds: 52.76 [95% CI, 19.74, 141.04], p = 0.95).
This meta-analysis suggests that high-fluoride toothpastes are superior to low-fluoride toothpastes in reducing caries. The results of this work when used judiciously should encourage the use of high-fluoride toothpaste, specifically among the vulnerable populations, to maximise preventive benefits.

This study investigated whether there was a difference in amounts of dentifrice ingested by children based on age using pea-sized instructions. The study had a randomized, single-blinded, 3-period, crossover design modelled after Barnhart et al. (1974) with one regular-flavored and two specially-flavored dentifrices used ad libitum. Subjects were enrolled in three groups: 2-4, 5-7, and 8-12 years. They were instructed to brush at home as they would normally with each dentifrice for 3 weeks (9 weeks total). On weekly study-site visits, subjects brushed with the assigned dentifrice containing a lithium marker to measure the amount of dentifrice ingested and used. Averaging across dentifrices, amounts ingested were: 0.205 g (2-4 yr), 0.125 g (5-7 yr) and 0.135 g (8-12 yr), demonstrating 2-4 year-olds ingested significantly more than older children (p ≤ 0.002). Averaging across dentifrices, amounts used were: 0.524 g (2-4 yr), 0.741 g (5-7 yr) and 0.978 g (8-12 yr) suggesting an age-related effect (p < 0.01). Findings also showed that ingestion amount for specially-flavored dentifrices may increase relative to regular-flavored dentifrice for children 2-7 years-old. This research demonstrated that dentifrice ingestion amount decreased significantly with age while usage amount increased with age. Importantly, ingestion and usage levels in younger children reflect \"pea-sized\" direction and were numerically lower than historical levels reported prior to this direction.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the remineralizing potential of child formula dentifrices on primary teeth using an in vitro 7 days pH cycling model.
METHODS: Twenty-one primary teeth were placed in demineralizing solution for 96 h to produce artificial carious lesions; then cut longitudinally into 100-150 μm thick sections and randomly assigned to three groups. Sections in Group A were treated with dentifrice containing 458 ppm monofluorophosphate (MFP) and sections in Group B with 500 ppm sodium fluoride (NaF). Group C sections were treated with a nonfluoridated dentifrice.
RESULTS: Group A (458 ppm MFP) and Group B (500 ppm NaF) showed significant decrease in lesion depth, whereas Group C (non F) showed a significant increase in depth (P ≤ 0.05, paired t-test).
CONCLUSIONS: Though dentifrices containing 458 ppm MFP and 500 ppm NaF demonstrated remineralization of carious lesions, it was not complete. Therefore, it is also important to emphasize on other preventive methods in the prevention and/or reversal of carious lesions.
