    UNASSIGNED: Radiographers form part of the healthcare team and are integral in the diagnosis and treatment of trauma patients. Additionally, they are required to provide their services to multiple departments within the hospital, including the emergency department. Healthcare workers who work with trauma patients experience changes in their psychological functioning. Therefore, diagnostic radiographers may have similar experiences; however, limited studies were found on radiographers\' conceptualisation of trauma imaging.
    UNASSIGNED: The aim of this study was to explore and describe radiographers\' conceptualisation of trauma imaging.
    UNASSIGNED: One-on-one in-depth interviews were conducted virtually with radiographers in both the private and public healthcare sectors in Gauteng, South Africa.
    UNASSIGNED: In this qualitative, explorative and descriptive study, 20 radiographers were interviewed virtually through Zoom or WhatsApp video calls or telephone interviews. Participants were asked a central question: \'What does trauma imaging mean to you?\' Detailed notes were taken during the interviews, and interviews were audio-recorded. The data was transcribed and underwent thematic analysis. Trustworthiness and ethical principles were adhered to throughout the study.
    UNASSIGNED: Thematic analysis identified four themes: (1) COVID-19 pandemic; (2) road accidents; (3) gender-based violence (GBV); and (4) paediatric injuries that participants conceptualised as trauma imaging.
    UNASSIGNED: Participants conceptualised trauma imaging as COVID-19, road accidents, GBV and paediatric patients. It was noted that participants\' personal experiences were significant contributors to their meaning-making and responses to trauma imaging.
    UNASSIGNED: The study has contributed to the understanding of the conceptualisation of trauma imaging from the perspective of diagnostic radiographers.

    Evidence-based practice (EBP) is essential for ensuring the delivery of effective and efficient healthcare. Despite this, EBP is not always well implemented in the clinical environment. Evidence suggests that the application of EBP is likely impacted by healthcare workers\' attitudes, knowledge and skills. While there has been a recent proliferation of international research examining diagnostic radiographers\' attitudes towards, knowledge of and skills in EBP, no such research exists in an Australian context.
    This study presents the results of a validated self-report survey, the evidence-based practice questionnaire (EBPQ), administered to Australian diagnostic radiographers. The data were described and aggregated means were calculated for each of the domains. Inferential statistical tests were computed, including Cronbach\'s alpha, Pearson\'s correlations and independent t-tests, and Kruskal-Wallis tests.
    The aggregated mean for the practice domain was 5.02 (SD 1.104), for the attitudes domain it was 5.41 (SD 1.169), and for the knowledge and skills domain, it was 5.20 (SD 1.177) on a seven-point scale. Significant associations were identified among these domains, with individuals holding higher qualifications and occupying leadership positions more likely to score higher. Additionally, the modality in which an individual primarily practiced appeared to also have an impact on their score. However, no significant correlation was found between any domain and the number of years an individual had been practicing.
    This research has established a baseline of Australian diagnostic radiographers\' practices, knowledge skills and attitudes towards evidence-based practice.
    This baseline can inform the development of interventions aimed at enhancing the role of evidence-based practice in the sampled population.

    Publication of Government directives and initiatives have signalled a shift in healthcare priorities, with growing emphasis on prevention and early intervention. In comparison to other allied health professions, perceptions of Diagnostic Radiographers of their contribution to addressing these initiatives and role in promoting health, has not been explored. There is limited evidence on current practices, knowledge and confidence in providing health promotion advice to patients within this professional group. This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of Diagnostic Radiographers of their role in promoting health.
    Semi-structured focus groups were conducted with 20 Diagnostic Radiographers recruited via convenience sampling from a Scottish Major Trauma Hospital. Focus groups were transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis.
    Findings demonstrated a lack of awareness and understanding of government initiatives and professional body recommendations surrounding health promotion. Diagnostic radiographers felt ill-equipped to provide appropriate and impactful health promotion advice and reported lack of time as a barrier to contributing to such activities.
    Diagnostic Radiographers noted a willingness to undertake additional training to enable them to participate and were able to identify areas where they could adopt health promotion activities in their clinical practice. Addressing the barriers to participation is essential to empower Diagnostic Radiographers to contribute to the health promotion agenda.
    There is a need to address profession specific education at pre-registration and post-qualification levels, to ensure Diagnostic Radiographers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to promote health to their patients. Strong leadership is essential for creating a positive environment to facilitate education, training and the acceptance of health promotion as a key part of a diagnostic radiographer\'s role.

    BACKGROUND: Journal clubs (JC) have emerged as a popular tool within medical and health professions to deliver outcomes such as promotion of evidence-based practice (EBP), improvement of critical appraisal skills, as well as stimulation of research interest among participating professionals. However, the delivery of these outcomes within the diagnostic radiography profession has not been evidenced and this is the aim of this service evaluation.
    METHODS: This evaluation adopted a pre- and post-evaluation survey design to explore the impact of a novel JC introduced among diagnostic radiographers in a UK NHS Trust. Impact was assessed based on four pre-determined outcomes such as Knowledge of EBP, Attitude to EBP, Critical Appraisal Skill and Research interest. Open ended questions in the post evaluation survey were also used to obtain participants feedback on JC activities attended.
    RESULTS: Evaluation of the four pre-determined outcomes indicated that JC activities participated by diagnostic radiographers resulted in positive changes across all evaluated categories. Attitude to EBP was the only outcome to show a statistically significant positive change across all participants, highlighting that the JC affected EBP attitudes positively for those that attended. Furthermore, thematic analysis of open-ended questions indicated that the collaboration experienced among JC members during critical appraisal of articles was a motivation for continued participation while factors such as high clinical workload and absence of management in meetings were identified as mitigating barriers.
    CONCLUSIONS: Participation in the JC showed positive improvements in all pre-determined categories. The collaborative nature of JC was motivating for staff, however barriers such as management absence in meetings, and high clinical workload did cause some challenges. Research is recommended to look at the longer-term impact of JC activities amongst diagnostic radiographers.

    Radiographers\' profession is constantly evolving, which demands adaptation of education and training programs to build up medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals (MIRTPs) that provide healthcare to improve patient experience and outcomes. This study aimed to map radiographers\' practices, competences, and autonomy level in Western Switzerland.
    Data was collected by 2 cross-sectional online surveys targeting Alumni, radiographers, clinical placement tutors and medical imaging equipment specialists from industry, with opened and closed-end questions. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were used to analyse the data.
    81 Alumni and 93 Chief-Radiographers, clinical tutors, practitioner-radiographers and industry answered the questionnaires. The competences considered as the most \"acquired or completely acquired\" by the Alumni were: adopt a reflective posture on practice (90.1 %; 73/81), adopt ethical behaviour (90.1 %; 73/81), carrying out and providing radiological services for diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive purposes (81.5 %; 68/81), adapting communication to the other surrounding persons (81.5 %; 66/81), and check compliance of procedures with standards (69.1 %; 56/81). Similar results were referred by Employers. The autonomy of the participant radiographers was considered as average, and it focuses only the preparation of the patient and the protocol optimisation. The development and integration of research is weak as well as the application of competences regarding professionalism.
    A better link between educational institutions and clinical practice can help on the integration of research and evidence-based on practice, necessary to progress the radiographers\' profession in Western Switzerland. The autonomy needs to be further developed and leadership courses must be integrated in the curricula to facilitate the implementation of new approaches to reinforce radiographer\'s profession.
    Practice must be revised to integrate evidence-based; to facilitate research development, the managers need to increase support.

    BACKGROUND: The United Kingdom (UK) government\'s healthcare policy in the early 1990s paved the way adoption of the skills mix development and implementation of diagnostic radiographers\' X-ray reporting service. Current clinical practice within the public UK healthcare system reflects the same pressures of increased demand in patient imaging and limited capacity of the reporting workforce (radiographers and radiologists) as in the 1990s. This study aimed to identify, define and assess the longitudinal macro, meso, and micro barriers and enablers to the implementation of the diagnostic radiographer musculoskeletal X-ray reporting service in the National Healthcare System (NHS) in England.
    METHODS: Multiple independent databases were searched, including PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE; Embase; CINAHL, and Google Scholar, as well as journal databases (Scopus, Wiley), healthcare databases (NHS Evidence Database; Cochrane Library) and grey literature databases (OpenGrey, GreyNet International, and the British Library EthOS depository) and recorded in a PRISMA flow chart. A combination of keywords, Boolean logic, truncation, parentheses and wildcards with inclusion/exclusion criteria and a time frame of 1995-2022 was applied. The literature was assessed against Joanna Briggs Institute\'s critical appraisal checklists. With meta-aggregation to synthesize each paper, and coded using NVivo, with context grouped into macro, meso, and micro-level sources and categorised into subgroups of enablers and barriers.
    RESULTS: The wide and diverse range of data (n = 241 papers) identified barriers and enablers of implementation, which were categorised into measures of macro, meso, and micro levels, and thematic categories of context, culture, environment, and leadership.
    CONCLUSIONS: The literature since 1995 has reframed the debates on implementation of the radiographer reporting role and has been instrumental in shaping clinical practice. There has been clear influence upon both meso (professional body) and macro-level (governmental/health service) policies and guidance, that have shaped change at micro-level NHS Trust organisations. There is evidence of a shift in culturally intrenched legacy perspectives within and between different meso-level professional bodies around skills mix acceptance and role boundaries. This has helped shape capacity building of the reporting workforce. All of which have contributed to conceptual understandings of the skills mix workforce within modern radiology services.

    This narrative review examines the current status of evidence-based practice and knowledge translation in diagnostic radiography. It explores knowledge translation efforts in the allied health professions aimed at systematically implementing evidence-based practice and suggests ways that these may be applied within diagnostic radiography.
    Knowledge translation in diagnostic radiography is in its infancy with numerous examples of key findings of rigorous studies not implemented in practice. Utilising frameworks, models and theories to systematically translate knowledge into evidence-based practice has been shown to be effective in other allied health professions. Whilst few studies in diagnostic radiography report utilising these systematic approaches to implementing evidence-based practice, those that do, show promising results. Attitudes towards evidence-based practice within diagnostic radiography are becoming more positive and it is important to use this positive shift in attitudes to create real evidence-based change in the profession.
    The potential benefits of systematically translating knowledge into evidence-based practice in diagnostic radiography are wide reaching with positive implications for our patients, the profession and wider community. Leaders at all levels of radiography must work towards implementing evidence-based practice in their daily work.
    Systematic approaches to knowledge translation should be adopted and reported in diagnostic radiography in order to more effectively translate knowledge into evidence-based practice.
