Distinguishing acquired hemophilia from other more common causes of bleeding, such as chronic liver disease, disseminated intravascular coagulation, or sepsis-induced coagulopathies, is crucial in guiding the management of life-threatening hemorrhage. This study describes a patient with primary biliary cholangitis who was found to have acquired hemophilia A, a unique cause of life-threatening bleeding that was especially challenging to diagnose and manage with her underlying liver disease. Identifying acquired hemophilia A allowed an avenue of treatment options that would not have otherwise been available.
