{Abstract}: A method for the recovery of whole-cell protein extracts from biomass on membrane filters is provided here. The protein extraction method is ideal for biomass captured by filtration of large water volumes, including seawater from marine environments. The protein extraction method includes both chemical disruption and physical disruption to lyse cells and release protein for subsequent metaproteomic analysis.
