A transesophageal echocardiogram revealed an intracardiac lesion attached to the lateral wall of the left atria, consistent with an atrial myxoma. Surgical excision of the lesion was performed and revealed that lesion was in fact a papillary fibroelastoma with thrombus attached, which demonstrates a novel mechanism by which intracardiac masses can cause cerebral events.
