One hundred thirty-two patients with IH were enrolled and compared to 282 healthy controls. Female sex (odds ratios [OR]: 2.2; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.4-3.6), low birth weight (OR: 4.5; 95% CI 1.9-10.6), and progesterone intake (OR: 38.6; 95% CI 5-296) were the only independent risk factors identified for development of IH, while no associations were found multiple gestation and preeclampsia.
