Traditionally, C. diff has been considered a nosocomial infection, but in recent years, a noticeable spike in community-acquired cases has occurred. C. diff infection (CDI) testing is often complicated, as various testing options with differing sensitivity and specificity for active infection are available. Also, recent guideline changes have altered the recommended treatment of infection. This article discusses recent changes to both the diagnosis and management of CDI and how they can be applied to everyday NP practice.
