Yet only a small percentage of persons seeking treatment are receiving care. Many resources are now available to help nurse practitioners use a harm reduction approach to helping people understand their options and make choices. Harm reduction includes offering U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved medications for treatment of tobacco use disorder, alcohol use disorder, and opioid use disorder.
