Seminoma represents the majority of germ cell tumors and is considered radiation sensitive. Radiation treatment plays a role in adjuvant therapy after orchiectomy of stage I, IIA, and IIB seminomas. Radiation dose de-escalation has been effective in preventing tumor recurrences while also limiting acute and long-term toxicities. However, long-term risks, including the prevailing concern of secondary malignancy risk, between adjuvant radiation and chemotherapy play a role in recommendations. Ongoing work continues to be performed to reduce radiation field and dose in combination with chemotherapy while still maintaining excellent outcomes.
