However, necrotic liver metastasis clinically and radiologically mimics liver abscesses, and malignant cells can be obscured in an inflammation-rich background on cytology. It is important to recognise malignant neoplasms in this scenario, in particular uncommon conditions such as metastatic mucosal melanoma.
