Recent technological advances have allowed us to move beyond studying the brain parenchyma to understanding the immune mechanisms of the meninges, the protective layer that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Specifically, advanced microscopy techniques have enabled researchers to begin to visualize the anatomy of the meninges and the cellular mediators of meningeal inflammation. In this chapter, we describe how to make meningeal tissue mounts for imaging by confocal microscopy.
