Current research suggests that the best way to prevent catheter-associated UTIs (CAUTIs) is to reduce unnecessary catheterisation. Few reviews have focused on the prevalence, risk factors and preventive measures for inappropriate catheterisation. This article, consequently, sought to evaluate the current evidence on the prevalence, risk factors and measures that can be taken to prevent inappropriate urinary catheterisation.
