The research was requested by the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Genetics, Health, and Society. Conditions studied were breast and ovarian cancers, colon cancers, Alzheimer disease, cystic fibrosis, hearing loss, hereditary hemochromatosis, long QT syndrome, spinocerebellar ataxia, Tay-Sachs disease, and Canavan disease.
